Description Sigrún, at some point before the twins were born. Done for anatomy/coloring practice. Personally, I think this is some of my best outline work yet, as far as accurately approximating the conformity of an adult female orca.

The coloring is... eh. Average.

Title alludes to the fact that while most child-bearing orcas have the support of their extended family, before and after giving birth, Sigrún's company in the "Foreign Fathoms" RP is anything but extended family. Meaning she is, in effect, on her own.

Now, a bit of trivia: the idea to have Sigrún bear twin calves was largely inspired by the following YouTube video. While the orcas in question are Type C Antarctic orcas, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible among other orca subspecies.

The underbelly anatomy - drawing portion is well executed.
Very beautiful character. : )

Like everything else, even a detail such as that requires study and practice to get right, it seems. Especially when one is dealing with a hypothetical case of twin orca calves.

Thank you.

I love this drawing! just the way she is moving with the water makes me glued to it.

Thank you.

Yeah, I thought a languid surface would work best, given the angle/pose she's drawn at is pretty ordinary. Just wish I could better master reflections, on her and the water's surface.

you're welcome.

I need to work on my poses, wolves and orcas. =/ I am glad to see you master it. hehe

From the side-view, I've succeeded. If I'd truly mastered it, I could draw them from any angle.

You ever need a second opinion on orca anatomy/posture, feel free to note me.

Well, she won't be lonely for too long, Great job

Indeed. Thank you.

They are? Neat. That would be a sight, two sets of twin orcas, one adults, one calves.

GAAAAAAAAAH! SHE'S SO BEAUTIFULL! o3o

And pregnant. :'D I don't understand why some people "blerg" at pregnant women. Their belly carries new life. Is that gross?

NO!

And is she the mother? :'D Never thought of that! XD Who is thah father? c:

And I have to draw her sometime with thah twins! <3

Thank you. ^_^

Indeed. It's part of the natural course of life. I don't see why people feel apprehensive or freaked out by it, either. Ergo, why one sees paintings like this from time to time in my gallery.

I don't know that I can disclose who the Dad is yet without ruining the one remaining surprise that ties in with this given plot. But I plan on revealing it on the 31st, when the poll ends, if not sooner.

Hint: it isn't any of my bull characters.

And you know I'd look forward to that.

Thank you. I know I don't color so well in the late night/early AM hours. So I usually avoid doing that. But the anatomy turned out so great, after a few last minute tweaks this afternoon, I couldn't wait any longer.

Yay, J.O isn't the only one with twinssssssss. The reference sheet you did for them look so cute though

J.O's gonna have twins, too?!

Thank you. ^_^ I hope to paint more of them soon. It's kinda tricky when they don't, as yet, have names or dispositions inferred from them (the winning choice of the poll will help determine their personalities ).

Yeah, Remember I was asking you and Ano for Twin names? XD

Well, You can still draw/paint them and then post it up until the poll closes with the name results

Indeed. We'll see how that goes. As usual, I'm riddled with more ideas than my hands can currently carry out in great speed with my present method.

I was tempted to make it comical, I'll be honest. But in the end, I decided to go toward a realistic depiction. The posted video is the only evidence I know of anywhere that features orca twins. So, then I got to wondering, what does the mother in question look like before they're born? This is what came of that thought.

And even should FF stall out, there's nothing that says the continuity can't continue. Maybe, the project is disbanded, and all the orcas released to travel and try to survive as they will. Wouldn't that be interesting?

AnoOrca In reply to grayorca [2012-08-17 06:21:27 +0000 UTC]

With how large a pregnant female gets with just one calf, a mother carrying twins would be massive. I think you got it perfect ^-^

That would be interesting for sure o=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grayorca In reply to AnoOrca [2012-08-17 06:25:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. One could assume the calves wouldn't both grow to seven feet long, either. Two smaller, five feet long babies would be easier to carry. Though in Sigrún's case, she'd still look like a blimp, being only fourteen feet long herself. I'm so cruel to her...

An idea I'll definitely be keeping in my back pocket.

grayorca In reply to LadyDemona [2012-08-17 05:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. It's quite the interesting study, as opposed to a normal orca cow's anatomy. I've tried it at least three times now, just to see how carrying a calf, or two in this case, affects their form.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyDemona In reply to grayorca [2012-08-17 05:36:20 +0000 UTC]

you're welcome. I bet and it came out really amazing she's so pregnant. I'll see what I come up with when I draw one of my orcas pregnant I'm leaning toward Kamala though it would be interesting for an albino orca having a calf I wonder what it would look like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grayorca In reply to LadyDemona [2012-08-17 05:39:05 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. Of course, it would depend on the given genetics, but albino orcas are somewhat-unexplored territory as far as OCs go. Trying out an artistic idea that others haven't thought to before is usually a good tactic to take.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyDemona In reply to grayorca [2012-08-17 06:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah though I don't think that when the Albino breeds with nonalbino then there is no chance that the offspring will be albino as well. I'll figure it out when I get the chance. I'm going to try to draw Kamala pregnant first just to see how it looks then I'll see about Tsukiko.
