Description i want to practice different methods of coloring digitally and decided, why not pokemon? Pokemon are pretty simple, low stress subjects, and wonderfully nostalgic^w^ so i started with some quick inked lineart, scanned em and colored using different tools, avoiding the use of lineart in the final product...

i actually decided to try a Pokemon challenge, finish one pokemon every day, I'm not saying all four hundrad and whatever are gonna be in different styles, but i am going to use this as an opportunity to try different things. I was going to do it all in order too, i sketched lineart for pokemon bulbasaur through butterfree but when my hue jitter refused to turn to zero on the first day of the challenge i started with charmander (it would only mess up cool colors for whatever reason o.O) and decided to finish the family before going back in the right order.

so please tell me what you think of the different color styles and if you have any tips for making it better, all the better. Regular comments welcome too, including the random squees sometimes received for pokemon for no other reason then that it's pokemon xDD

all used photoshop, took about an hour each, giv or take
charmander: watercolor heavy loaded brush and smudge
charmeleon: hard round brush, smudge, doge, and burn
charizard:rough round bristle brush, smudge, and doge

*insert random Pokemon squeee* LOL xD I couldn't help it haha

Well I don't know what your aim was but Charmander looks like a children's book illustration.
Charmeleon look almost like...a charmeleon-shaped candy? (haha?) Very 3-D and could fall right off the "page" any minute
And Charizard looks like he came straight out of one of those soft-textured paintings...if you know what I mean...

There's only two other comments I can think about commenting 1) I think Charmeleon's tail could be worked on a bit. It seems like his tail doesn't match the "shading" for the rest of the body? I'm not sure how to fix that though...maybe too much dark or the gradation is in the wrong direction..?

And 2) Charizard's wings..the 'inside' of the wing should be darker so that it actually looks like it's folded the correct way ((although I myself have issues with those types of wings so I know how hard it is to get it right ))

thanks, that's just about what i thought of them too xD only i didn't quite think to describe it as a charmeleon shaped candy xDD

yeah, i thought i might have accidentally gone overboard with the shadow on the tail, but the truth is i kinda like the way the colors blend on the tail more then i like how they blend on the body so i'm more likely to try and and the body shadowing to match the tail, it's they type of vectoring i did, more colors made a more cohesive shadowed tail...

yeah, by the time i had gotten the body right i was really fed up and didn't want to deal with the wings at ll so i just quickly made some color and shadows... i should redo it...
