Prompts: old polaroid photo of [office chair: woman: 0.6] as a chair, magic, fantasy
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, as it may seem to be a good idea, all of you magical apprentices may decide, in your inestimable wisdom, to practice your spellcasting on your own time.
Please don't.
Depending on your area of expertise and/or method of casting, a small mistake can bring consequences both great or small. Mispronouncing a syllable in a spoken chant, a moment's distraction while concentrating on silent casting or even an errant brush stroke in scroll making can cause no small amount of grief. The worst case was an accidental summoning of... something deadly and poisonous back in 1879. Most mistakes do tend to the embarrassing, thankfully.
As an example, my grand niece Jenny was reading in my study and decided that the office chair was not comfortable enough. She figured that having a talent with inanimate transformation would mean she was safe from any mishaps, so she used her magic to enhance the cushioning. While still sitting in the chair.
Her startled screech is what warned me of something wrong, and I rushed to find her. Entering the study I found her slowly being absorbed into the office chair. With just a quick bit of willpower I was able to halt the spell's progress. Once that was done, she calmed down and asked me to help her out of the chair. Instead, I reached for my old black and white Polaroid camera. She begged me not to take a picture of her like this as she didn't want anyone to know this happened. So, I altered her face and hair, then took the picture.
The image shows how not amused she was.
Once that was done, I ordered her to continue her studying. When she complained about her situation, I freed her arms and rolled her to the desk. Then I told her that as punishment for unsupervised practice, she will be a chair until the evening when her parents arrived to pick her up. Jenny was greatly upset but didn't complain.
Which was a better attitude than I had to my own teacher. When my own master caught me using magic to alter bushes for my own amusement, he changed me into a tree. I would have spent a day as an oak tree were it not for my backtalk. That day ended up being a week instead.
