Ghost Rider

Real Name: Johnny Blaze

First Appearance: Marvel Spotlight #5 (August 1972)

Most of the otherworldly creatures Stephen Strange kept a tab on were just that--otherworldly. But there was one particular supernatural being wandering the Earth itself that Strange had first become aware of many decades ago. Called the "Ghost Rider" by the few that had actually seen it and lived to tell the tale, it took the form of a skeletal biker wreathed in hellish fire. Riding through the night on a flaming motorcycle, Strange had assessed the demons patterns and found that, while its powers seemed incalculable, the creature mostly kept to itself, remembered only as a faint memory by those who saw it on the open road. What manner of beast was this?

Tracing the legends back, the Ghost Rider seemed to be linked to a man named Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcyclist who had disappeared in the seventies after the death of his father. It seemed this poor soul had made an ill-advised deal with something not of this earth, transforming him into a demon doomed to bike the open roads for eternity. But Blaze seemed to have some modicum of control over his condition, and used his powers to deliver penance to those the law had failed to catch, possibly to give his demonic side an outlet for destruction.

Unlike most depictions of him, my Ghost Rider doesn't really have a human form to revert to, rather he simply appears on the roads at night wherever evil is at its worst. An urban legend come to life.

For his design I originally had a much more traditional Ghost Rider sketched out but I decided I wanted to push it even further. So his skull is more twisted and cartoonish in its evil features, with big sharp teeth and what have you. And the flames erupting from his head are supposed to look like this horrible hellfire volcano that spills out onto his arm, enveloping it. This is also where his chain is attached to, which takes the form of this grotesque meat hook thing. Basically, I wanted him to be this horrible monstrosity that makes bad people shit themselves in fear.

And I didn't draw a motorcycle, because, lol, no way was I doing that, but yes, he has one.
