Well well, what's all this then. Last month, I was looking at my old Don't Break the Chain drawings, and saw the Dragonair on this page:

It reignited my desire to draw more Dragonairs (since it is my second favourite Pokemon, or at least it was a few years ago when I bothered to figure out the list), so here we are. With not one, but two! This drawing was an exercise in creating a finished, polished drawing without sacrificing the looseness and inherent energy of the original sketch (which I think I managed much better than usual), as well as continuing to search for that middle ground in anatomy detail. And... I like this a lot. I'm really happy with how basically every aspect turned out... and BOY is she adorable.

It took a while to complete, so I had plenty of time to name her. I settled on Cathay, after the Cathay Dragon airline (popularly known as "Dragonair", so there you go). The white spots were added to make her more unique (besides just enhancing the cute factor). And who knows, maybe her dad was an Azumarill. And there's also the pink neck bow, very important.

Recently, I've been starting to feel like maybe drawing hands isn't that bad after all. But with this? Oof. I kept wanting to be done with the sketch stage, but the hands just refused to look right. It drove me half to distraction.

Anyway, yeah. Very very happy with this one. I usually can't look at my own drawings with anything other than a clinical eye, but this time I physically squirmed from adorableness at least 14 times throughout the process, so I must be doing something right with this one.
