Description Small portrait done at work - about 4" by 6". Picasso is among my favorite artists, and I find his work so powerful because of, among other things, the brute honesty and curiosity of it.

Quotes:
"For me, art has neither past nor future. All I have ever made was made for the present."

"Nothing can be accomplished without solitude; I have made a kind of solitude for myself."

"I treat paintings as I treat objects. If a window in a picture looks wrong, I close it and draw the curtains, just as I would do in my own room."

"A painting is not the result of working toward a goal, it is a stroke of luck, an experience."

"I have never painted anything but my time."

"Art is a lie that makes us realize truth."

"The academic gospel of beauty is a fraud."

"A painter paints to rid himself of his sensations and his visions."

"I want the work to reflect only feeling."

"From the point of view of art, forms are neither abstract nor concrete; they are simply forms-lies-some of which are more convincing than others."

"There is no abstract art. One must always begin with something. Then all traces of reality can be removed. There isn't any danger then, because the idea of the object has left an indelible mark. It is what moved the artist originally, inspired his ideas, set his emotions to vibrating. In the end his ideas and emotions become imprisoned in his painting. No matter what happens, they can no longer escape from the picture."

"No, painting is not interior decoration. It is an instrument of war, for attack and for defense against the enemy."

"In our mutilated epoch, nothing is more important than to create enthusiasm."

I saw one of his painitngs in vienna, it felt like the moment you sink into coma after somebody hit you with a baseball-bat......

together with Bacn the two most intense paintings in the exhibition....

but Picasso screams, he cries and screams at you....incredible energy...never saw something like this...but anyway Ernst Fuchs is much more uplifting and shows you mystical tuth in the inside,,,I like this experience more...and I also saw Boticelli inthe Uffizi in Florenz, and if you see his faces (the purety, diviniy and innocence shining out of their softness) then evey artists simply dies....Boticelli is now my all time favourite... I also saw Michealangelos divine Family (with nude man in ht background) and naja he really was beyond his time, and had an incredible skill and feeling for YEAH!!!! but Boticelli takes you in front of the godhead, Shivers down the spine, goosebumbs etc...total beauty
