“Breakdown!” Knockout cried joyfully, throwing his arms around his partner’s neck, “Thank Primus!”
Breakdown groaned, his good optic barely lit as he looked down at his lover, then to the rest of the room, where the Autobots shifted uncomfortably.
Ratchet was at the medical monitors within seconds, hands flying over the scanners to get an accurate read. The medics optics were disbelieving, “By the Allspark, this is incredible. MECH has managed to fully resurrect a Cybertronian to their living state…”
His hands stopping, the medic stared wide-eyed down at Breakdown currently being cradled by Knockout, “Silas found a way to bring Breakdown back from the dead.” He summed up.
“I-I would hope so,” Breakdown wheezed, a smug smirk crossing his features, “Otherwise the Pit is worse than I had imagined…”
“Breakdown.” Knockout whispered, still elated.
Bulkhead gave a chuckle, “Anything to give you a hard time, Slagger. “
Breakdown, snorted, managing to push Knockout off long enough to sit up, before wrapping an arm around his partner again; Ratchet didn’t complain, merely staring in awe at the mech who was previously in pieces. “So what happens now, Prime?” The Decepticon asked.
Optimus, who had stood silently this whole time, flickered his gaze between the two Decepticons, before taking a cycle of air. “You are in need of a proper…recovery, Breakdown. And I fear Knockout is still suffering from the side effects of your bond being broken. The two of you are welcome to stay here for your recovery so long as you do not attempt any hostilities.”
Knockout looked to Breakdown, and Breakdown held his stare at the Autobot leader, before giving a nod, “Yeah, okay.” Knockout audibly purred, pressing his helm into Breakdown’s neck cabling.
The blue ‘Con ignored this; looking to Bulkhead, “Guess I owe you ‘bots again for saving my tailpipe…”
Arcee stepped forward, “You can repay us by telling us how they brought you back. How did they get your spark rekindled?”
Breakdown looked to her and shrugged, “Dunno, was kinda dead at the time. And they weren’t really the types to explain too much.”
Arcee growled, stepping forward again, activating a blade on her arm, “I think you’re lying.”
Breakdown narrowed his optics at her, but before he could say anything, Knockout had stood and moved in front of his berth, baring a rotator saw at her defensively.
Bumblebee moved to grab Arcee from attacking, cooing at her while Bulkhead moved between her and Knockout. Optimus held up his hand, looking to her as well, “Arcee, enough!”
“Slaggit, Prime, he knows, he just won’t tell us!” Arcee snarled, “If we find out what MECH did then we can do the same to Cliffjumper! He can be brought back to life!”
Optimus moved to kneel before her, glancing back to see that Breakdown and Ratchet had managed to convince Knockout to retract the saw. Looking back to her, he set his hands on her shoulder struts, “Just because Silas was twisted enough to violate the sanctity of the dead does not mean I will allow us to do the same to our comrade. Cliffjumper is at peace, leave him to rest.”
Arcee opened her mouth to say something, but swallowed it, glaring at her leader. With a twist, she ripped out of his, and Bumblebee’s, grip, transformed, and sped out the exit.
Optimus stood and watched her leave, heaving a sigh of frustration.
Silence permeated the base for a moment, before, “Well she’s a moody one.” Breakdown huffed from his berth, reaching out as Knockout climbed into his lap; protectively wrapping his arms around his lover.
“Should I go after her?” Bumblebee buzzed.
Optimus shook his helm, looking back at the two Decepticons instead, “Allow her to compose herself on her own. She will return when she feels better.”
Breakdown looked the Prime in the optics, “I meant what I said; I don’t know how I’m alive right now.”
Optimus nodded, “I believe you. Silas does not seem to be the type of person to thoroughly explain his methods.” He approached to two, suddenly noting how exhausted Knockout looked. His dim optics, slumped posture, optical shutters twitching back and forth, “It would appear you two need to rest; I trust your condition will keep you both disabled for some time, so I will not post a guard. Bear in mind the ramifications should you try anything.” He warned.
Breakdown waved his hand, “Yeah, yeah, we gotcha, and you can relax; I’m a freshly spawned zombie-bot and Knockout would risk his paintjob.” He indicated his already sleeping partner.
Bulkhead gave a playful punch on the shoulder to his ex-teammate as he retreated to his quarters, followed by Bumblebee. Ratchet began powering down non-essential medical systems and dimmed the interior lights, joining Optimus where he stood.
“He was frantic, you know, I don’t think he would have found peace without you being alive.”
Breakdown regarded him carefully, “Decepticons don’t commit suicide.”
“No,” Ratchet smiled softly, “But they can let their bonds claim them, same as the rest of us.”
With that, the two Autobots bid Breakdown a pleasant recharge, turned and left for their own quarters.
As they departed, Breakdown caught a glimpse of Optimus putting his arm around his medic, pulling the shorter mech to him affectionately. Snorting in amusement, he looked down at his own lover.
Knockout looked at peace against him, snuggled into his chest in a very un-Decepticon fashion.
Thunking his helm back onto the berth, he began to ponder what life would reveal to him, now that his faction had abandoned them both, he had just been resurrected, and taken in by their enemies?
The steady thrum of systems against his own was all that Breakdown needed to momentarily forget his worries and power down, letting recharge take him, but only so far, away from his lover.
