Description Hi, everyone.

This here is a gift for Captain Semper, a really nice chap at Bolter & Chainsword who helped me with the Greek in my Asterion Moloc depiction.

He asked for an Assault Captain of the Consecrators, one of the Dark Angels' successors Chapters - [link] These guys have been granted some the former Legion's best artificer armours.

Semper wanted a character who looked both archaic and ruthless. He gave me a choice between Mk.2 and Mk.5. I chose the first. While Mk.5 (my favourite of the two, as well as Semper's) is outright badass and ruthless, it also is more 'clichΓ©' in both those senses. I wanted to make this Captain more of an 'unstoppable force', an impersonal killer of the Chapter's antiquity. In terms of facelessness and impersonalization, Mk2, with its robotic style, is king.

Now, ruthlessness is not something the Unforgiven Chapters outright convey, so this guy had to show it in acceptable ways, namely through a few skulls (Unforgiven carry those around), and trophies taken from Fallen Dark Angels, such as bones and that cloaked skull up there. Hey, he just told the Chapter Master the scum fought back.

I'm very proud of this guy. Sure, there are issues with perspective here and there, but it came off nicely, all things considered. And he was a blast to draw.

The armour is beautiful, let me tell you. It executes the feel of the Crusade years wonderfully, especially with the tubes running up his abdomen and thighs.

Sure the hands look a little small, but that just makes the rest of his body give off that 10 foot tall, 2 ton badass look even more.

i would like to see the process behind one of your drawings, mate! i want to see which steps you go through until you reach this awesome final results. would you not like to share that with your watchers

I would, my only problems are momentum and laziness, really...I've been asked to do tutorials before, and I'd like to, but I have issues with interrupting my work to go scan the thing...gah...I'll try, but believe me, it's really erratic, sometimes I draw stickmen, sometimes I draw the human inside the armour and then build the plating around him...

Really great work on this one, Greyall.

I pretty much agree with every decision point you made in the description. Though I think his hands seem a tad small. Could just be me.

Otherwise I love all the trophies and the battle damage. Especially the Fallen skull and hood.

THIS sorrow is't relate to only unforgiveness...
Probably... it is remembrance of old days...

Greyall In reply to Ratibor31 [2012-02-08 10:07:00 +0000 UTC]

I think I know what you mean, and I agree.

As far as armour design goes, for example, old Marks are much richer than what we have "nowadays", and marines decorated their wargear more profusely. I miss that too, but it's that nostalgia of good old days (which weren't that good) that makes the 40K Imperium.

This guy seems as some ghost from the legendary past... and now he is quite confused and bewildered... Whom to believe? Whom to trust?
