This is a very silly scene from the Terry Pratchett Discworld novel Guards! Guards!, of which both Rich and I are a big fan. Carrot there (the redhead) is calculating the odds that Sergeant Colon (center) can shoot down the dragon that is rampaging through Ankh-Morpork with his lucky arrow, as it will only work if the odds are exactly a million to one. Nobby (on the right) is supposed to be so short and disformed that he carries a certificate to prove he's a human being. Ha.
