Description
This pic was inspired by my friend , who has been doing book covers recently and has got me in the mood for them now! I've looked at Day of the Triffids firstly, one of my fave John Wyndham books (if you haven't read any of his work, I really do advise you to! Very bleak but interesting stuff).Instead of showing a scene with lots of Triffids terrorising some people, which I thought might be obvious, I wanted to show it in a gentler way, in amoungst other normal flowers, almost making it appear as if it's a normal plant. Obviously this one's only a baby, but I'm sure it could do some sort of damage...

It's a great graphic composition... but your subjects remind me more of the spore spraying flowers in the Star Trek episode, "This Side of Paradise", than triffids.

Very poisonous green...! Great silhouette work as ever. And yays for the Triffids! Fun, fun book, that.

Yep, wanted it to be a nice intense green! I found the book so creepy, what a horrible situation to be in! Thanks very much

Always nice to meet another Triffid fan, and especially when they draw such awesome triffid designs! It's the colours that make this though - a menacing night-black and a green that's *too* green, kinda like the Triffids themselves, the sense that while they're a part of nature, they're also a ghastly mockery of it.

Thankyou very much! It's sad - I know very few people that have actually read the book (they've all seen the film though ) Yeah I think green and black together can be a bit spooky, especially when associated with a Triffid! Thanks again

I really like this series of pics you've done recently.. This is a great example. Nice vibrant green set against black gives it a really spooky edge, and I like the idea that this is 'just a baby'

Thanks very much, I only wish they were real book covers! I think green and black look great together (well, black goes with almost anything!) Yep, I reckon baby Triffids are still pretty vicious!

Ah, there is an interesting but creepy book that I love, it's called The Langoliers and it's by Stephen King. It's really good. Have you read it?

Ooooo, no I haven't read that one! I gave up on Stephen King after reading Pet Cemetary and Salem's Lot. What's it about?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MadameJavert In reply to greyflea [2006-06-01 15:33:54 +0000 UTC]
LOL! I never read any of those, I'm not really into Stephen King, it was just by chance that I read this one. XD
Well, I'm horrible at summaries, but it's about these people who are on a plane to Boston. The plane actually goes through some type of time rift so the people end up in the lifeless world of a past timestream. And in the world there are these beasts, the langoliers, who are shaped like balls with no facial features or limbs. They only have a large mouth with teeth that let them eat anything.
That was probably a horrible summary, but I don't want to give anything away.

The use of black, green and white makes a great contrast against one another, sets the mood I think Even the 'nice' flowers have a sinister look to them... The font works well too. Such a great book!

Put it on your 'to read' list. It involves nasty plants that come to earth in a meteor show, but one of the effects of seeing it is that people go blind (making it easier for the Triffids to kill the humans!) The main guy that stars in it had his eyes bandaged at the time, so he still has his sight, as do a few people. Quite scary at times, both due to the Triffids and the thought of losing your eyesight! There's a film, but don't bother with it, not a patch on the book.
