11 years late. Later years of the MC-12's had the Series 50's. This is why you heard different sounding 12's.

I was thinking that some MC-12 models(except on Greyhound, but I don't know) have the 8V92TA engine because it sounds like the Eagle Model 05 bus. I've seen one Eagle model with the 6V92TA engine one time, but in 2006, I discovered another Eagle model 05 with the 8V92TA engine. Besides, it's been a long time since I've heard the 8V71N drivetrain engines, but I rarely heard the 8V92TA drivetrain engines. By the way, you can go to "busexplorer.com" to see what kinds of buses looks like if you've never been there before, that's all...

oh i grew up on Busexplorer.com.

As far as the MC-12 go,it was really only built for Greyhound. A few charter companies might have 1 or 2 MC-12s but they were retired Ex-Dawg buses. MC-9s are the ones with the odd ball engines. Ive drivin MC-9s with the 8V92, 8V71 and the 6V92 engine. Kits are available now to upgrade the MC-9 to look like MC-12s by changing the front headlights and rear tail lights. You can always tell an MC-9 from a 12 by the top of the bus above the driver.

The Eagle buses that GReyhound operated were Eagle Model 15s from 1987 or so. THese only had the 6V92 and from what they sound from the outside, they sounded like 8V92s or fire trucks. Trailways used ole Eagle Model 05s and 10s with 8V71s but later went to 6V92s for fuel reasons. Alotta charter companies that ran Eagle 05s,10s and 15s mainly had them 8V92 powered for both pulling power and performance. Before Eagle ended their production, the Model 15s were actually built in a 45 foot form with Series 60s, Cummins M-11s and CAT 3406B and C-15s as power. Transmissions were either Allison B500s or 6, 8,9 or 13 speed Spicers or Eaton/Fuller manuel transmissions.

GRRRRREYHOUND BUS!! I LOVE RIDING THOSE BUSES! I rode it for the first time since 2004 when I was going to Cleveland Ohio. By the way, since some of the MC12 models has the 6V92TA engine, don't some of the other MC12 buses have the 8V92TA engine?

no Greyhound bus that i know of has ever been powered by the 8V92 engine. One main reason for this is fuel economy. back in the 70s before the 6V92 became the main engine for buses, the 8V71N was used in alot of Greyhound's SceniCruisers, MC-7s, MC-8s and early ex-Trailways Eagle Model 05s.
