Description
Our student discussion turned to various domestic and world iconic systems, and how said systems impactart in general. Symbolic representation also came up spurred on by the group's museum/gallery viewings
and by our fascination with Dali. The assignment for the following week came to be an artwork reflecting all this.

Deepest apologies, M'dear. I'm working my way through messages and obviously am so far behind it is unforgivable. But I want
to thank you for the lovely comment and the encouragement always. And it is my pleasure and honour to be one of your cheerleaders as well.

Why thank you dear man! I have been blessed in many ways.... and a very good blessing was to have been fortunate enough to have met you here in DA. You are golden! Thanks for your true honesty and kindness.
Oh, and I too have time constraints that make it hard to be here and be as active as I would like to be... but life has to be lived... LOL
Take care my dear friend. See ya 'round

Sublime! I could stare at this for hours and remain entranced by the smaller details. this has a wonderful lightness to it along with an air of mystery and certainly does remind me of Dali's work in that respect.

Thank you for the lovely comment. Indeed, I am especially appreciative of your catching the contrast of the lightness of the
surroundings as opposed to the heavier, solid elements. And a storm is brewing between the two most certainly.
Thank you again.

Thank you for the very kind comment. I'm always searching, too. The real trick is patience in all things.
I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn with that little study group. The instructor was
a wonderfully funny fellow and equally educated. Wonderful learning atmosphere.

I must say that this is a very intense project to view. So many interesting objects and hidden meanings to ponder. It's a wonderful piece of art and I would love to study under you sometime. You have such a wonderful eye and a special way of displaying what you think and see.
Needless to say, I LOVE this display of creativity!!!

Thank you so very much for the kind comments. You spoil me wonderfully, you know.
Truly I shall miss that time with the little student group and the lively discussions we had-- especially with regard to the surreal studies. Our instructor, who was one of the most original teachers I have ever experienced both in and out of the classroom, is a working artist as well and now can no longer spare the time for the extra tutorial outings. It was a one-in-a-million experience indeed.
Again, many thanks for the lovely comments.

Thank you. A great exercise in getting both ideas and resources sorted and
under greater control. The deeper discoveries of oneself were a great help then and,
I hope, in future projects for all of us in the student group.
Thank you for the view and the comment.

I find no words to describe my joy while looking at your gallery. I have chosen this one because you talk about Dali and it made me think of a funny title for this picture: dream caused by the passing of a snail
Thank you for sharing all your amazing work with us.
Namaste,

Ahhh, ha-ha! In the wake of the the mighty snail I find safe passage.
Seriously though, I am most gratified you picked up on that little fellow. Most folks think he was, at best, a space-filler and placed there for no reason, but in truth, he is an important point. Neither impressive nor imposing in existence, he passes almost invisible through all the ballyhoo above and around himself and, in coming to the edge of all the clutter and show, peers around the facade to catch a glimpse of the real truth behind it all. Silly and serious all in one breath.
Dali was both serious and playful, methinks. Just a couple of his qualities, of course, but very human and filled with totem dreams and fears as well. Fun and frightening.
Thank you for the lovely (and very fun) comment.

Wow ... so much depth
I thought you might be interested in viewing some pieces from one of Australia's most prominent surrealist artists - I'm also curious to know whether his work is well known and studied in the international artworld. Though I can see much symbolism influenced from Dali in this piece of yours, I am reminded of Gleesons works from the late 1960s and through to 1990s when viewing this. Anyway a heap of his paintings can be viewed here --> [link]

Not that I really understand his works, but I do find them rather facsinating ... and horrifying at the same time. What look to me to be menacing body parts and bits of sea creatures in a dreamy alien landscape, effected in such immense detail, I do much prefer his works from 1980s onwards - obviously because they are more mature in their execution. The texture and colour combinations in these later works are quite appealing to me - and I always enjoy surrealist work for the neverending messages and images that can be extrapolated each time they are viewed, making the works quite timeless indeed.
I hope your study group enjoy his work.

GreyMoccasin In reply to PoizonMyst [2006-09-13 05:34:31 +0000 UTC]
Ah, thank you so much for the link! The artist is familiar to me, if I recall properly, though I have never had the opportunity to see such an excellent timeframe layout of his work as is shown at that gallery. (His work, The Fall Of Day, is one of several favourites!)
And how interesting to see his progression from the early, solitary (almost Frazetta-like) figure viewing the events of the painting around him, and the colours of those images strongly reflecting the influences of the society at the time. The latter works appear to adopt "quieter" colour choices and more unified themes. The Psychoscape pieces also appear to be a turning point of some sort perhaps? Will definitely research Gleeson more deeply and bring him to our study group's attention. This should be a lively discussion indeed!
Many thanks for the lovely comparison. I am very honoured indeed.
