Description Where Red Apples Lie - "The unknown girl", page 4/9

<< First < Previous Next >

She's moody as ever.

This is one page of nine extracted from somewhere in the story of Where Red Apples Lie, a rather strange graphical novel project I've pondered and doodled with on and off for a long time. I thought it's be interesting to put up a small semi-standalone part of it, maybe even settle on a consistent style along the way.

I'm still finding my footing with the black+white+red style of this work, so you'll probably see some improvement as the pages go by. Comments and feedback is, as usual most appreciated.

I'll try to put up a new page at least every week.

Again nice how you can't help but feel curious about this mysterious girl.

Is the boy touching the red door the narrator?

Nitpicky thing, I don't really like the close up of her face, because it doesn't seem to be the same person with the same features as seen so far. I can't really tell why though, that's why it's nitpicking.

I think the close-up looks a bit different due to being lit differently to the image of her just before. I might go back and fix that in the future. Thanks for the feedback! Yes, it's supposed to be the narrator opening the door.

This page is not my favourite, to be honest, still trying to pin the style down and getting people to look identical between panels is quite a different challenge from making normal images.

Thanks for the feedback, very helpful.

Could indeed be the lighting, as I wasn't just comparing it to the previous panel but the semi close up from the previous page as well. Her cheekbones seem less pronounced in both with a smoother transition to her cheeks.

I thought it was him since it was the same outfit, he just looked less unappealing than he has so far. Guess he looks better from a profile, lol, everybody has their better angles after all ^_^

Making people look identical is very hard, you're doing well so far, and the clothing does help a lot.

Lol, you really find the poor narrator unattractive, don't you? I've revised her face a bit light-wise although not so much the cheeks; check it out.

Lol, it's true, though not unattractive in an ugly way, but in a bland way. We all have our types ^_~

Yeah, I can see a change in her face. I am very sure if I had seen it like this the first time around I would have simply accepted it, and not seen anything odd that could make me want to compare her face to previous panels ^_^ What did you change?

Yes, he's pretty bland, that's a sort of intentional thing - a bland person in flashy clothes.

I simply made the shadows on her less extreme, brightening her cheeks so as to vaguely match the shadowing from the panel before. Glad it looks better!

I hadn't quite made that connection: bland versus flashy. That's kind of cool actually.

The tea's red! That means she's dead!

No, wait, that was Sixth Sense.

Hehe, need to re-watch that movie one of those days, I don't remember much from it.
