Animation test to see if I'm any good at animating ponies Discord
Hopefully I'll finish this, but I would appreciate some critique on the sketches before starting on the lineart :V Been staring at it for two days and some fresh eyes would do a world of good.

EDIT:
Fixed the motion of the cursor and some minor areas with Discord's walk, made the tail slap more whip-ish.

This is awesome, nice and fluent animation too, looks a little wierd when he lays back down though, his lower body suggest that he's lying on his "stomach" but his upper body looks more like he's on his side, probably just because of the sketchstyle that it's in right now though.

I love how the wings pop when he's poked and how he seems so uninterested when smacking the cursor and laing right back down.

ItΒ΄s nearly perfect. But you wanted critique. So IΒ΄m honest: You should work on the flicking away of the cursor. THere is too less strenth in it somehow.

I really like it! It strikes me a bit odd how feline his quadruped movement/walk looks but it fits well. His whipping needs to be a bit sharper, besides that it's really good!

It's not abundantly clear what happens to the cursor at the end, it gets knocked away so fast.

If you slow it down and make the cursor go in an arching motion it goes out of frame, and it is possible to see what happened

I tried it in the edit, but since this is running at just 12 frames per second even one extra frame on the cursor slows it down too much >:I

make it arch lower, the lower the arch, the slower it can go

To make it go slower I would need to add frames, but adding so much as one frame makes it too slow. It isn't the arch as much as it is the number of frames it takes for the cursor to fly out of the frame :V

This animation is so smooth and perfect!
The only flaw I could find is that after the poke Discord's body seems to flatten out a bit. It might just be that it is hard to see the individual lines but it is the only thing I could find to possibly critique this otherwise flawless animation.

I also love how he shoos the cursor away with his tail at the end, like "Beat it, will ya? I'm trying to sleep here."

It's simple, yet so fluidly animated- well done~! He reminds me of a cat here- you poke a sleeping cat, and some of them will give you a dirty look, then just get up and move a few feet and lay down again- just like you have Discord doing here. Wonderful job!

Well for one thing, it helps a lot to do a turnaround of the character you're animating so you know what he/she/it looks like from all angles

Depends on the character :V For some reason 3/4 Princess ponies are a pain to draw but the other ponies and Discord are easier
