Animation test to see if I'm any good at animating ponies Discord
Hopefully I'll finish this, but I would appreciate some critique on the sketches before starting on the lineart :V Been staring at it for two days and some fresh eyes would do a world of good.

EDIT:
Fixed the motion of the cursor and some minor areas with Discord's walk, made the tail slap more whip-ish.

the animation is smote and fluent the movement is a tad realistic with the tail moving around like a cat and the walking animation also being fluent nice job ย

I was thinking about going back into animating, so I looked up some reference, I saw this and I was like "wow this is really good!" then I saw it's by you and I was like "Even better!"
Anyway, how did you upload this to DA? It never seems to let me upload anything from Photoshop...what file type did you save it as?

This was done in Flash and exported as a .swf. I guess from Photoshop you'd have to export it as a .gif, but then it might lose quality
I haven't done much animation in Photoshop save for the less-than-five-frame/low-quality .gif's.

I like how fluid discord's motions are, very lifelike to my eyes. I also think that this fit's his personality pretty well. Annoying pest interrupting a nap? ignore it and dismiss it if possible.

I think your animation of Discord is actually better than the show's. ย Your Discord walks on all fours and has the tail swooshes and looks lifelike.

I LOVE this, it really caught my attention and kept it; One point of critique that may just be me is that it took me a couple times of careful watching to figure out where the cursor went after he flicked it. I could tell that he flicked it, just not where it went xD Once again, I LOVE this, and I hope to see the final animation soon!

I got that from somebody else, but when I try to extend the cursor-flick by just one frame it moves too slow Maybe I'll just increase the frame rate.

Very nicely done. The initial reaction to the curser though seems just a bit too fast. Maybe adding one or two more frames between the point where the curser pokes him and the point where the wings start to relax. Nothing too major, just a tiny little timing edit really. Other than that it looks really great!

Wow. Did you watch videos of cats for inspiration on Discord's movements? His movements are believable enough to be an actual real-life creature, in my opinion. Fantastic job!

Cool! How many frames? I use Flash CS6 and I wanna animate stuff like Discord (chinese/japanese dragons- same body structure) but I can never get the animating as smooth as what you've got right here

I've edited it to be a few frames shorter than it is here, so right now it's at around 140 frames
I don't know if it's possible to teach people how I animate stuff because it's straight through with no real planning

I like it XD I can see Discord trying to get cozy for a nap and the cursor makes him annoyed XD I can see his face to that too like :You DARE bother me?" "B*ch Im napping. Go away." And when the cursor leaves, a smile appears on his face XD
