Description I've already discussed the lack of effort and copyright issues of doll maker pics and screenshots before, so for more details on that, see the link next to "related stamp."

To briefly sum up:
It takes little to no effort to press a few buttons, results can be perfectly imitated, and by the very nature of the submission process on DA, everything that goes into your gallery is copyrighted to you, and therefore claimed by you automatically.

According to FAQ #502

"the products of "generators" where you select pieces of dolls, characters, signs, cards or other similar items may be submitted providing that the ORIGINAL CREATORS of the generator ALLOW YOU to use them on OTHER WEBSITES (check the terms of use) AND providing the final product obeys ALL DeviantArt policies."

The policy further states:

" these creations involve NO TRUE ARTISTIC EFFORT and ... they may be placed in your SCRAPbook.
Any ... content found in any other gallery will be relocated to scraps WITHOUT WARNING."

In short, dollmaker/character generator/kisekae pictures are not art and must be placed in Scraps because it is literally site policy.

I think their FAQ changed... and it is frustrating to me... Do you know what the rule is now, regarding the usage of... doll makers?

What does scraps mean in this??

Scraps is a separate part of the site from the other art folders.
You can select it from the "edit deviation" menu under location.

A lot of artists either don't use it or use it as a drawer of shame for old stuff.

BEFORE YOU COMMENT:

- FAQ #502 is site policy- harassing me or my watchers WILL NOT CHANGE THAT.
It can be read here:help.deviantart.com/502/

- By definition , art is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination" or "the various branches of creative activity.
Dress-up games are not one of those branches, like drawing or dancing, nor do they require the application of skill and creativity.
Thus, by DEFINITION, they are not art.
You can click five buttons and be done in a dollmaker- try that in an art program like Gimp or Sai, and you'll get bupkis.(Read: Nothing.)

Oxford also has as possible definitions:
"Works produced by human creative skill and imagination",

"Creative activity resulting in the production of paintings, drawings, or sculpture",

"Subjects of study primarily concerned with human creativity and social life, such as languages, literature, and history"

and "skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice."

None of these definitions cover dollmakers.
(Oxford definition:en.oxforddictionaries.com/defi… )

- I DO support dollmaker stuff that follows FAQ #502, obeys the Copyright Policy AND is properly labeled as such- I did NOT say anything about "DA banning accounts" "deleting deviations" or similar melodramatic nonsense.

- Moving items to a different site folder is extremely easy, and honestly not that big a deal.
You could easily do this to an entire gallery within a couple hours- two days, tops.

- It is inherently unfair to claim that five-minute screenshots deserve the same kind of respect and attention as pieces that can take HOURS or even ENTIRE DAYS of work, to say nothing about the years of experience required to get something halfway decent.

I have sacrificed years of time on practice, spent the better part of my childhood allowance on supplies, taken an art class with a teacher who didn't even like me TWO YEARS IN A ROW, was bullied and ostracized multiple times throughout my life because of my art, and overall worked my katookus off to get to where I am now.

Those drawings in my gallery? An hour each AT LEAST.
The comic? ALMOST A YEAR IN THE MAKING, and it's only the first chapter.
But it's all worth it, because I'm doing what I love and making work I can truly be proud of.

If you want respect, you have to work hard, put in the time and effort, and earn it.
There are no shortcuts.

- Respectful and polite discussion is encouraged- further harassment, however, is most certainly not.

No one ever said anything about not likin doll makers (i personally think theyre fine) but 1: thats just what the policy says but there are literally millions of people on da are u seriously expecting people to search all our galleries? 2: youre overreacting to a stamp about the policy. All these rude things about griff's art is unnecessary 3: "if you dont like works made in character creators/doll makers why do you even bother to look at them"? why, may i ask, did u look at this stamp? By your logic you shouldve just ignored it good sir.

Well i apologize madame that you are so easily triggered by someone making a stamp about a rule that dA has
Thats how the world is, so deal with it, its not like theyre going up to you and saying "DO THIS NOW BC I SAY SO" theyre sayin thats what dA says to do
Simple. As. That. Do it or dont. But dont whine about it to someone who brings attention to it. Whine to the peeps who made the rule.

No theyre right
I looked at the faq after commenting and it litterally says "
Since these creations involve no true artistic effort and are entirely prepackaged the appropriate location they may be placed is in your Scrapbook. Any generated, pre-packaged content found in any other gallery will be relocated to scraps without warning."
Id have to go thru my gallery at some point when i gots time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I used to submit those things to my gallery just about a year ago, but I cringe thinking about it now.

I have nothing against dollmakers themselves- they can be good for ideas and messing around- but I'm against people claiming they "made" the screenshots, stealing the spotlight from actual artists who actually put time and effort into their gallery, and just generally abuse them(and the poor developer, who almost never gets proper credit. ^ ^; )

I conceptualize with dolls all the time, but it's the fact that I posted them to my main gallery that I can't stand.
