So in my family we use the word "core" to mean "gross, or undesirable."
And beta has, for some time, been used to describe someone who is submissive or weak-willed.
But these cats though, with their stars and whatnot.

not only is core bad, but they also ruined the 'green' theme of deviantart

(it really just ruins the color scheme because they arent even complementary or similar colors on the color wheel. Maybe if it was red or yellow it would be better)

because if people want something, they dont want to pay more for it if it doesnt have even more features added. They dont care that it helps the site run and pay its workers. Sometimes I am baffled by the selfish attitudes at how everything needs to be sewn into fitting their life and their life only or else tempertantrums, temper tantrums everywere.
