I'd say it's probably because of the SUPER HIGH sugar content in Sprite. If you get a bouquet of flowers and want them to last longer, you can put them in a vase with sugar water which gets pulled up through the stem, allowing the flower to use it as fuel and survive just a tad bit longer.
