I think there was a theory that Gyrados was flipped with Dragonite.

GeorgiaScarlett In reply to Aerozerx [2015-07-20 13:15:01 +0000 UTC]

I doubt that because Magikarp is based on a Chinese legend about how carp that jumped over the Dragon Gate would become dragons. So I don't think they were switched as the Chinese dragons are very different to Dragonite.

well I do know about this idea as well, and I agree with it more. I wasn't saying I believed in the theory I brought up or that it was true/well founded.

As much as I like this design of Dragonite, I prefer the original more. It stands out from the other two and doesn't look like a bigger version of Dragonair. I like drastic changes in final evolutions. It's what makes Pokemon unique. In other words, I love that derpy orange dragon.

I personally think they messed up that evolutionary chain. (The Pokemon creators, your version is a lot better.)

Little blue serpent ==> Bigger, more epic-looking snake ==> Big orange derp dragon.

I like this drago better o3o. Have you ever seen the concept art for dragonair? It was originally supposed to look more like Dratini

I was so disappointed when I let my first dragonair evolve j uj

I mean Dragonite is cool and all but I was hoping it would be some amazing winged chinese-style dragon , maybe having those tiny little arms or something, not some orange full on dragon.

Nellidae302 [2013-11-05 00:02:49 +0000 UTC]

On its own, I think Dragonite is pretty cute, but it was still a huge shock when I evolved my Dragonair :/

I think your Dragonite remodel could've been just a wee bit slimmer though, but very nice otherwise.

I like this evo-form better, I was always confused why such an elegant thing turns into a big f*cking dragon! This one looks much better, but a Chinese dragon form would look better if you ask me.

Ow yeah, Dragonite definitely stands out being not similar at all to it's pre-evolutions, I would love if it would resemble them more like yours <3

Also, angelic wings would be awesome, like the ones on Dragonair's ears. ^^

zippytear [2013-11-04 23:43:12 +0000 UTC]

I ready a theory on how maybe Gyarados was supposed to be dragonair's evolution because of the serpentine body shape and colour scheme and dragonite was magicarp's evolution because of colour ;w;Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PikachuLover2012 In reply to zippytear [2013-11-06 18:00:33 +0000 UTC]

That theory doesn't make any sense. Whoever told you that hasn't done their research on Mythology. Dragonite is based on "Guardian of the Sea". A Japanese myth/story about a sea serpent(Dragonair) that changed into a dragon(Dragonite) that protects the seas.Β Gyarados is also based on a Japanese myth/story about a carp(Magicarp) that changed into a flying water dragon after attempting to climb a waterfall to prove its strength.Β

This Dragonite is more legit than the original. I think it's weird that both its pre-evolutions are blue then it drastically changes to yellowish orange. :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PikachuLover2012 In reply to fluffythehedgehog12 [2013-11-06 17:37:24 +0000 UTC]

The final evolution will always go through a drastic change from its pre-evolutions. Like the starters, for example.Β

-Fennekin and Tepig came from quadrupeds to bipeds

-Mudkip also came from a quadruped to a biped

-Bayleef and Grovyle lost their head leaves

-Froakie and Frogadier lost their bubbles

-Snivy and Servine lost their limbs

-Charmander had grew wings

-Oshawott came from a goofy looking otter to a badass samurai sea lion

-Squirtle grew giant water cannons

-Chimchar's flame moved from its tail to its head

-Cindaquil's volcano flames moved from its back to its neck

-Tochic came from a cute little chic to a epic Kung fu chicken

-Bulbasaur's bulb became a giant flower

-Chespin and Quiladin came from cute hedgehogs to a juggernaught knight.

-Pilup became an awesome "Neptune penguin"Β

-Turtwig's twig on its head became a giant tree on its back

To me drastic changes to the final evolution is creative and they don't just look like bigger versions of their pre-evolutions(I'm looking at you fan-artists).Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fluffythehedgehog12 In reply to PikachuLover2012 [2013-11-06 23:21:24 +0000 UTC]

-Mudkip went back to a quadruped in its final form.

-The "limbs" on Snivy and Servine were outstretched leaves/limbs. In its final form, these limbs turned into leaves they were meant to be. (though its coils cover what grasping abilities it used to have.)

^^Just wanted to point those factors out.^^

They do look more creative with changes in their final forms. However, I do take some offense to that last remark, "I'm looking at you fan-artists," as I am one myself.
