Let's play cops and robbers...

One would-be thief, reluctant investigator, police superintendent and irresponsible bureaucrat from 'Five Finger Discount'. haha

Just a quick outline of their roles in the story:

Emile: Once the cleverest thief in the whole of Figment City, he now faces a long, long spell in jail unless he repays his debt to society by working for the FCLD (Figment City Law Department) as an unnofficial investigator. He's not very happy about this situation for several reasons, first and foremost among them being that he has a serious problem working with an organization he perceives as careless and corrupt. Yes, even thieves have moral scupples. And moral baggage too. Emile can be a very bitter, crabby person, but he's also capable of genuine kindness and decency when the situation calls for it. He tends to come off as either really elonquent and charming or cruelly acerbic, depending upon his mood. Usually it's a mix of both. Unlike Paolo, he didn't choose to become a thief because of the fame and glamour. That was only half of it.

Paolo: He can easily be described as very young and very stupid, but he's also very arrogant, and that's what makes him such a pain in the ass. Paolo's in love with the idea of being a high-profile art thief, but he's not quite there yet. He has to work half a dozen odd jobs to cover the costs of his extravangant living expenses, which his occasional forays into art-related crime do not cover. He thinks of Emile simultaneously as 'My HATED, eternal rival' and landlord, so you could say that they have a very interesting relationship. Paolo loves soccer and likes to play it indoors. 'Indoors' meaning any room with fragile decorations and windows. He is completely convinced that his Italian heritage is a perfect explanation for all of his violent, erratic behavior, while in reality it justifies little more than half of it.

Edward: Edward's the youngest of the four senior bogeymen who run Figment Corp., which makes him 'a snot-nosed bureaucrat' in the eyes of both Emile and the majority of his peers. Edward is not very well liked, despite being very friendly and eager-to-please, which tends to make him feel a bit depressed. He hides this by acting like a total spazz. His current assignment is to oversee the reorganization of the FCLD, a job which he does not relish. The fact that he gets dragged off on dangerous adventures that frequently defy logic and the laws of nature by the department's current Commandant/Superintendent doesn't help. Edward's kind of goofy and easygoing, and really, really does not like taking part in any business ventures that could end in loss of limb or life. It's fair to say that he really, really dislikes his job right now. Edward likes to sing and dance, which usually isn't the sort of thing a bogeyman of his status wants to advertise. He does it anyway.

Dan: The current superintendent of the FCLD, Dan is a soft-spoken gentlemanly type who enjoys reading trancendentalist poetry and early victorian novels. He can also reduce a person's face to a mess of blood and bone-meal with a well-placed left hook. Dan was appointed to the highest post in the FCLD shortly after his predecessor was arrested for bank fraud and opium trafficking. His family has been involved in law-enforcement since the beginning of time (or at least as long as anyone can remember), and Dan takes his duties very, very seriously. Although he's very intelligent and perceptive, he tends to run things by the book. Occasionally however, he'll approach a difficult problem in an unconventional way...like hiring Emile Cadavre to investigate a smuggling ring. When he's not chasing down criminals, Dan loves spending time with his family, which he dotes on completely. He'd much rather hang out with his kids in the park than beat the crap out of a gang of thugs, but hey, that's the way things go. He tries his best to look out for of Edward, who he genuinely cares for, but Edward has a penchant for being an air-head and a sass-mouth, which lands them both in a ridiculous amount of trouble.
