Backstory:

Flash's earliest memories was of running. He'd just watched his parents be killed, the rest of his litter gone. He was running. There were so many barking dogs, there was fire, smoke filled his lungs, but he ignored the pain. He would run and run and keep running. He wouldn't stop until finally he tripped on a branch, falling down a hillside and landed roughly on his back left leg. It hurt but it obviously wasn't the worst part of the night. His little nose twitched, sniffing around him, his heart going so fast he thought it might just come right out of his chest. He wanted to call for his family but... There was no one left to call. He looked around, he needed cover. He saw some bushes with brambles not far from him, so with what little energy he had left, he limped his way to the briar path, hiding there. He'd lay as still as he could all through the rest of the day, and the night too. He was so freaked out he couldn't sleep, just stay as still as he possibly could. In the morning an older buck was checking the area for sweets and berries, when he found little Flash laying there frozen in place. The buck tried talking to him, but all Flash could do is look up at him with big scared eyes. So, the buck pulled him out, and carried him back to their warren.

At first, Flash was as silent as the grave, they would just take him where they wanted him to go next. Rather it was time for them to go out and graze, or time to go in for the night, he'd practically need to be carried. Maybe he was a lost cause they thought? Then one day, one of the older bucks spooked Flash, almost falling on him, and he took off, running faster than anyone at his age, and almost faster than their fastest runner. He'd hidden himself right back in the burrow, and they had to find and carry him out once again. Maybe there was some hope after all? What they didn't realize is that though he didn't talk much, he watched everything. He was listening to everyone interact, observing how the hierarchy seemed to work. He wanted to know, how did he belong here? Could he belong here? He thought maybe he couldn't. Until one day he heard a buck weaving a story for other young kits. Legends of a rabbit fast enough to out run the fastest elil, and smart enough to out-trick any fox. Finally he moved on his own, going to the story teller to listen more.

He wanted to be like that, a rabbit that could face any elil and come out on top... He never wanted that tragedy to ever strike him again. This caused him to disconnect from other rabbits, and work single-mindedly towards the goal of being so fast, so smart, so cunning, that he never had to rely on any rabbit ever again. This behavior would at first make the rest of the warren wary, as being a group was more natural for rabbits, so Flash learned how to trick them. He'd pretend like he cared, he'd pretend like he needed them, to make the rest feel comfortable. He'd become charming even, as to hide the closed up rabbit he had become.

As he became of age it was always obvious to him that he'd become a runner, he was always so fast, and it'd create some time for him to be independent. It was undoubtedly scary the first time he had to do his job, however, the thrill of it was more overwhelming. The sense that he controlled where the elil went with the flick of his tail. It felt like he was the rabbit of legends, and it felt good to be a legend.

The only problem was, there was another buck just as fast. When Flash was younger, even though Berry was older, he could out run without breaking a sweat. But now... Was struggling to even catch up with. Apparently Berry's mom had been a runner so he'd become one too to be closer to her? Some guilt trippy BS that everyone fell for. That was another thing. As much as Flash struggled to be a part of the family, Berry had one, and it felt like the whole warren was on his side. What once made Flash feel special, suddenly... He wasn't, and everyone was rooting for Berry. Or at least, that's how it felt to Flash. Despite many rabbits rooting for both of them, it hurt that they were rooting for Berry at all. It felt like everyone was becoming his enemy. Like all of his hard work had been for nothing. It may seem petty to others, but to him he just didn't get that you could root for more than one friend, or could be part of multiple families, so in his eyes they were all abandoning him.

Finally, he challenged Flash to a race. One on one, to decide between the two of them who was the faster hare. He tried to play it off as some fun friendly competition, when in actuality this race was going to mean ALLOT to him. When the time came for the race, he put all he had into it, and... He won. He was so delighted, panting there, smirking at the other... But when he looked backed he realized, Berry was still happy. This was just a friendly competition to him, and all the rabbits rallied around them both, congratulating them on a good run. All he could see was that they were surrounding Berry, happy for him. It made no sense, he was the one who won, why were they happy for him?

He would realize this later, what he was truly jealous of... But in the moment he went mad.

At night, while the others were asleep, he snuck off. He found tracks for some coyotes and then waited, when morning started to rise, he would taunt the elil and lead them back towards his warren. However, on the way there, Berry along with a few of the guard were out, and he'd lead the elil to them first. The guards went down, as they could not outrun the pack of coyotes. Flash would wait behind a tree, watching them from afar, waiting for them to finish playing with their food so that he may lead them the rest of the way. He noticed Berry hadn't been taken down, so he looked around, figuring he'd run away like a coward. That was where he was wrong, though Berry did run back to the nearest rabbit in their warren of the coyotes and Flash, he did so to warn them... Then he came back. Just as the coyotes were finished with the first group, and Flash prepared to lead them once more, Berry came back... Grabbing the attention of the elil before running off into the woods, away from the warren. Berry never came back, he'd sacrificed himself to save his family.

Flash thought that this moment would bring him joy, but... Instead... It brought him the truth.

It was never his speed that Flash felt threatened by, it was the way he loved. How he could love everyone with a full heart, and in turn, they would love him back the same way. He wasn't pretending like Flash was, and Flash wanted to feel love like that. He wanted Berry's love. But now... It was too late.

Flash watched with a heavy heart from afar as the remainder's of his "friend" was devoured, and then moved back to his warren. The rabbits, whoever remained were packing up, including Berry's mate who had within' the last five months, given birth to a litter of kits. This warren was no longer safe and they had to leave, and Violet ( Berry's old mate ) could only carry one kit with her. When he approached they hissed at him, threatened him, and then some of the males chased him off. They injured his leg but he was able to escape. For about two years he got what he'd always wanted, some independence. He was all alone, and being alone for a year can certainly change a rabbit's heart. He dealt with the anger, the grief, the denial and then finally the acceptance of it all. When he finally accepted himself, realized he didn't want to be that sort of rabbit anymore. He wanted to open himself up to people, he wanted to love and be loved... But... that was going to be a long journey yet. After a year he began looking for a suitable warren to join, when on day he ran into a young adult buck named Acorn. Acorn was immediately welcoming and kind, and oozing with a cute like-ability. It reminded him of someone but he just shrugged it off. They'd spend the next few weeks getting to know each other, with Acorn egging him to join their warren. Acorn would talk about how great everyone was, how they'd just "love" him, while Flash remained quiet and just listened to Acorn go on and on. He'd smile to himself, enjoying the company, they even began to flirt a bit.

Finally, after a few weeks, Acorn convinced Flash to join, and they went to Acorn's head rabbit together. As Flash got to chatting with the head rabbit, Acorn moved off to his mother as she came into view. Looking back, Flash glanced over to see Berry's old mate, Violet, as Acorn greeted the doe with a "Hey mom!"

"Oh shi-----"

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:

Flash was stunned, staring off at Acorn as the young buck chatted with Violet. How could this be? Out of all the warrens, of all the rabbits, this.... This had to be some kind of mistake? A joke? Was he being pranked perhaps? No, it wasn't like he'd told Acorn anything about his past... He'd let Acorn do most of the talking for them actually, so.... What gives then? He could tell Violet had spotted him to, seeing daggers for eyes being shot his way, he turned his attention away quickly, looking back to his now head-rabbit, " Oh... I'm sorry... What were you saying?"
