Description
During the fallout at the end of Volume 7, Grimlock was outside of Mantle, using his rage as a magnet to any Grimm that could detect it and draw them out. While doing this he sees an Atlas ship crash outside the city and goes to investigate, fully aware of what Ironwood has done. In visual range, he sees Qrow and Clover locked in battle, and decides to take control of the situation, forcefully. Running in-between them, Grimlock turns to Clover and begins their battle; Qrow shouts in for him to stand-down, but is soon occupied by Tyrian.

Throughout the fight, Grimlock dominates Clover, even though his semblance does offer him some small advantage, it's not enough to match a champion-worthy warrior from the Pits of Kaon. It's not until the end of the fight that Grimlock gives him a choice...

Grimlock: You've got two choices kid, stand down and let us go, or keep fight, and risk dying.

Clover: Risk of death is part of the job description, so that's not much of a deterrent. Plus, I still have orders to bring you in, and until I complete my mission, I won't back down.

Grimlock: Normally, I'd respect that, but you're working for someone who's willing to abandon his people to survive. He's made his, so have--Grimlock, so have you.

The fight continues, but quickly reaches its climax, for no amount of luck can save you against the wrath of a king. Before Grimlock ends it, he gives Clover a form of backhanded goodbye.

Grimlock: You know what makes us different, Clover? You do what you're told to do and just that; while I do what needs to be done. You may've been a good soldier, but a terrible warrior.

Clover: *coughing* Why didn't... you just sur-...surrender? Why did you ha..ve to fight?

Grimlock: The same reason I fought on Cybertron, for the people beneath you.
