Description Decided to upload my latest homemade background, just to show that i'm still alive and still working. I often make a new background when i'm bored and tired of looking at the same damn screen lol.

So yea, here is a Cube Abstract for you to lose your eyes in.
Feel free to download and use it if you wish, but at least comment please.

Till next model, Grim :3

Thank you but it's just my desktop background, I make a number of them, are they really that good?

Very cool. Nice work. Smooth cornered cubes are definitely 'in' this year!

Heh thanks I wondered if anyone would comment on the fact that the cubes were chamfered.

Chamfered! That's the word! I have 3D studio 4 here where that's a new feature! hehe

Nice job. Been thinking about CG desktop backgrounds for a while. Mine aren't as clean or geometricly satisfying .

Four? That is going back some years

I think that 3D fractals are about as geometric as you can get I've seen some of your work it's very good. I would love to do fractals but i'm not sure how with 3DS Max 8.

Yes, 4 is a while ago. But I just bought Vue 7 and I'm not a professional so that went out of savings! 3Ds is even more expensive! Anyway... I played with several Vue 6 images intending them for backdrops and they were all organic images via metaballs and glass textures. Vue does this really impressive thing I've yet to fully explore where it seamlessly blends one texture (applied to a sphere in a metaball system) to another. So I've messed with more organic and smooth desktop backgrounds.

Next week I will be reformatting my OS hard drive and trialling Windows 7 which I've yet to hear a bad word against so am thinking of W7 backdrops. (Vista sucks eggs and their crappy ribbon logo sucks about the same.) Hope to get some ideas and ispiration there. Apple backdrops still rule the artistic roost - how did Apple get all the good graphic designers?

Anyway... *cough*

Blends one texture to another? I'm sure i've heard of this feature before but I forget what it is called again. Sounds nifty though, don't think i've ever used that before. I know I haven't used Vue before either, i'll have to give it a look some time.

Yea i've heard some good things about Windows 7 one can only hope that it isn't a complete failure like Vista was. I agree Apple does have some damn good backgrounds, and i've often wondered the same about their graphic designers.

I also think its mint how you can see the other cubes through itself. If it wasn't for the obvious smaller in the distance thing, it would be hard to tell what is first.

Orange. I like it. I know its generally just one of my favourite colours but it goes really well with the black background without being too bright is what I mean.

Grimthor In reply to gothicartgirl [2009-02-12 15:14:21 +0000 UTC]

Yea, its a cross between orange and gold. Using a nice reflection map and a falloff opacity map giving it the nice transparent effect. Wouldn't be the same without the "Additive" transpancy effect ticked as well of course.

Yea, I love doing Abstract and Fractal art. But they are more personal projects than anything else.

Thanks I thought about using a different colour at first, like a dark green but it just didn't have the same feeling as the orange/gold look. Glad you liked it.

Must be cramped down there then lol. Hmmmm, a cool looking cyborg Velociraptor would be awesome.

El-Moppo In reply to Grimthor [2009-02-12 14:18:30 +0000 UTC]

lol... It is... But it's fine... It makes it kinky, well kinky!

lol... Hmmm. I could try a Velociraptor, but if I keep it in scale it might have to be a larger species, though, just to make it more visible, you know? Something of that size would be very vague... I really need to set myself a standard style for the smaller animals, though. :/
I shall do it sometime soon though. lol!

Grimthor In reply to El-Moppo [2009-02-12 14:59:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes very kinky!

Just do a huge well detailed Velociraptor, with it being cyborg you could totally add more things to it. Laser cannons lol. But yea you do need a standard style lol.
Great, look forward to it.
