Project for concepts class.I'm trying to take people in the city and turn them into anthropomorphic animals based on their traits and whatevs
hyenas are scavangers; don't actually hunt for their own food. they just take it from other critters.
so yeah. homeless hyena. i thought it made sense.

I have to say, this piece is very interesting. Mostly from the animal you had chosen for this homeless man.
From many other pictures I've seen of Hyena's, I have never seen a drawn picture of a Hyena, who 1. is not laughing, or 2. is not happy in some way.
I really enjoy the use of water color in this picture, the darkness obviously compliments the mood of the character. As well as show sadness from the blue that is visible. I also love how the shading is in this picture, as well as how you carried out the texture of the paints.
However, I feel the proportions are a little weird in the legs/feet. I think the foot facing towards us should be a bit larger, unless you're implying he has a short leg. As well as the foot that's bending, even though I don't know how a Hyena's anthropomorphic structure would be, but I don't think it could be that bent, and still be that lifted off the ground.
Overall, I feel this to be a very powerful piece. I am excited to see the next one in the series, keep it up!

Hyenas aren't actually scavengers. Really other animals such as lions are more likely to steal the hyena's kill.

Good art, but as others have noted, hyenas aren't scavengers any more than lions are, so maybe a truck-driver would be better.

Excuse me, but hyenas are NOT scavengers.
They hunt and kill about 90% of their meals. The only reason they are considered scavengers is because when there is nothing else to eat, or if they come across an easy meal thats just sitting there half-eaten, they can eat decaying and rotting meat that would make any other carnivore seriously ill.
And they are also highly intelligent, with some scientists rating them with near-primate or primate level intelligence.
Lions actually scavenge more meals than hyenas, and usually from hyenas. <.<
And 60% of hyena deaths are caused by lions.

Wow, this is great! And what a neat project, it should yield some interesting ideas!
XD I like that there is food in the hat, looks like someone threw this guy a little more then a bone.
I like the color choices you went with as well, it's got a very urban (as in actual city atmosphere, not the culture) feel to it. Both cool and gritty.
Anyway, great work, I hope we get to see more of this series, it looks very interesting. :3

Haha thanks! It's one of three parts I have to do for my final project in concepts class; we can give ourselves any topic we wanted and I picked the anthropomorphic animals thing... :'D cause i'm lame like that. i'll post the other two when they're done too, most likely!

What I also like about this picture is that Hyena's are known for there sound of laughter.
