Thing is I haven't really drawn in any way close to the style you draw in. Maybe you could give me advice or suggestions?

Well, just look at the details of the style you want to draw in, I suppose. Like... analyze it. Are the points angular or more rounded? What kinda shape are the eyes generally in? Is there something specific about the proportions?
Either that or keep doing quick sketches until you find something you like. Not the best advice, but it works for me, haha. c':

Toothy dark Grind is so different from Ear-y light Grind, I would say they are different characters if I didn't know better.

Hahahaha it's funny 'cause all I did was remove the ears, change the hair and wardrobe slightly and BAM totally different character! Really funny how these things work out!
