Yes, "booh, Epic...", but I'm so hyped for "Borderlands 3", because I rediscovered "Borderlands 2" after the latest Steam-sale as a really fun coop-game! The game still looks fine, I love cel-style and the cartoon-touch. And because I didn't paint sexy stuff for a while, here's "Moxxi"!
Sadly not a playable character...

Ah. I think if I were making the game I'd much rather pay Epic 12% of my earnings than 30% to Valve, not to mention whatever fat what of cash Epic laid on their doorstep for the timed exclusivity. Keep my employees paid and working longer, get better footing for more projects, etc.

I can understand that, I work for the industry. Of course it's noble from Epic, but "Borderlands" is anΒ established franchise, it would make his money anyway (and getting more discount from Steam as a big title), so I think this is more a helpful thing for indie-games. But as a gamer I can understand the frustation of grabbing big titles for a unequal service-platform, there's really no comfort or any community-options. I mean, I have to manage savegames of "World War Z" with google-drive, when I want to play on another PC - that's just silly. EA Origin or Uplay had cloud-saves from the start and Epic is NOW trying around on some small games. I use Epic a lot, It's nice when they gift games, I was happy about porting games like "Heavy Rain" (didn't like it, but that's not Epics fault of course), I play WWZ or "Dauntless" often and they have some really interesting games in the shop. But I just can't understand why I have the feeling, they don't care about their platform and - in the end - about me. Refunding a game is pathetic compared to steam, for example. It can't be because there's not enough budget to finance an up-to-date infrastructure.

Gearbox would still make less on a percentage basis even with the Steam discount for established publishers (and wouldn't have received whatever lump sum and/or further discount they got for the timed exclusivity). They might end up making more on Steam given their bigger installed user base but that's hard to say.
In any case - I dunno. I like that there's more competition, and the inconveniences of the platform aren't of great concern to me. I think Epic cares a lot about the platform but it's hard to compete with EA, Ubisoft or Valve, even if you have the Fortnite money hose to spray around. Valve's 2018 year-in-review was crazy:

12 Tbps at the edge growing 50% per annum, 15 exabytes delivered... insane. It may prove so difficult for Epic to get up to feature parity that they just stall the store. Or maybe the Fortnite money river will dry up and they'll implode. Hard to say.

I would LOVE more competition, too! But it's difficult with exclusive-deals and their usual pricings. "World War Z" is a very nice game with a very fair price, they should go on like that...
