Description
the poor-man's attemptive suicide, this started as an attempt on a series for "disorientation" using conflicting elements of orientation (match and face),
but it evolved into something much different when i gave it a title.

the frame is rotated,
I was actually hovering above the flame

Really interesting concept, how did you actually do it as your breath would put the flame out wouldn't it ?

The composition is great! The lighting is perfect and you really captured a great shot. What would have made it perfect would be if the whole frame was shifted so you could see a tiny bit more face-- it's a tad unbalanced with the negative space. But then again, I say, a tad. Not a lot.

Hehe are you in AP studio now? I am a junior at Carver Center for the Arts and Technology (Donno if you have heard of us we are kinda a big deal in the U.S.) I am trying out for AP studio. Lol it is crazy at CCAT we got the award of being the best AP studio in the world for our size so I am always looking at the great AP studio kids. I have instant respect for anyone who tries out and even great for anyone who gets in. Anyway....
I this is print is wonderful technically. I am just interested how does this go with disorientation? I mean are you trying to not orient the subject matter or the viewer. At the moment this is all very logical I think if you are trying to disorient the viewer a better I idea would be to get a light fan (like the summer pocket fans they sell for like a buck at dollar stores) and blow down on the match so that the flame is "upside down". I mean you have the skills here that you haven't shown else where of how to use the camera you are just lacking a clear "definition" of what you are going for.

the original concept was to use the orientation of my face and contrast it against a sideways flame. I took the shot hovering above the match.
Given the title though, it kind of evolved into something different.. so i might not be using it for my concentration because you are right, it really doesnt fit.
thankyou for the compliments though, this is really the first shot that I have planned and then shot.

Ugh I am still writing my concentration statement for the 2-D portfolio as we speak it is all about social commentary like alot of my work is. You want a hint? Don't mix photography and drawing if you are going to take the 2-D test it will like automatically get you a 3. Some of the juniors last year found that out and they are amazing one of them is a NFAA Finalist and a Nominee for Presidental scholar.

I'm glad it came through,
my lips were burning and you can see the sweat on my face,
I lined the shot up and framed it with various toiletries in my bathroom,
hovering over the flame with one hand stretched back to press the shutter.
yeah... ghetto but it gets the job done.
Thankyou

well i guess thats the best compliment i can get,
the picture is actually turned on it's side so I am just hovering above the open flame.
Im glad you like it!

I was thinking about signing up for AP Portfolio at my school, but I couldn't make anything like this. The contrast really works for this photo, and it kind of shows the power of such a small flame. I really like it.
