Description the poor-man's attemptive suicide,

this started as an attempt on a series for "disorientation" using conflicting elements of orientation (match and face),
but it evolved into something much different when i gave it a title.

Very cool shot, the lighting and colours are great, but being that close above a flame had to hurt!

yeah it did.... it was especially hard to just stay still long enough to get the shot,
thanks though,

wow, the colors are insane. the straight red to black gives this an extremely interesting feel. the flame pointing straight towards the face also helps to direct the center of attention it, even though it isn't in the center of the frame. very nice effect, and very well done.

Awesome camera and great concept!
The only thing I might do to this would be tweak the colors a bit, but otherwise this is good.

I really like what you were going for in this shot, not bad at all. Did you use any filters (polarize or otherwise)?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gromitsend In reply to lordnemos [2006-05-24 17:17:11 +0000 UTC]

nope, no filters at all
Very little adjustments in PS too

lordnemos In reply to Gromitsend [2006-05-24 17:56:39 +0000 UTC]

very clean considering the low light level, what was your speed set, to keep shake blur at a minimum?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gromitsend In reply to lordnemos [2006-05-24 19:29:44 +0000 UTC]

shutter was at 1/20 and a iso of 1600,
It's my face in the shot so I had the camera on a tripod and i had to reach over to press the shutter manually.

Very very nice, it's different of the regual foto with fire because the fire goes in the other direction
Why painful? did it burn? lol
'njoy and good job

Gromitsend In reply to klakice [2006-05-23 23:09:31 +0000 UTC]

yeah it was really hot and I had to take the shot a number of times to get it just right,
that and inhaling carbon wasn't too much fun

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

klakice In reply to Gromitsend [2006-05-23 23:21:41 +0000 UTC]

really ? i guess I mean it's not cool but the sensation of fire on the skin is not that bad (never tried on the lips tho)
Good Job and Good effort
'njoy

how did you creat the background complitly black ?
the photo is very whell done, i like the effect of the fire in the photo

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gromitsend In reply to gal4 [2006-05-16 17:50:12 +0000 UTC]

the only lighting in the picture is from the flame,
It isnt bright enough to light the backround behind me so it just comes out black,
i'm glad you like it

trinhiro [2006-05-16 15:57:56 +0000 UTC]

disorientation, i'm curious, how so??

i like how the flame is captured so smoothly

and it's like you're trying to breath it in

and this has such a warm feel

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gromitsend In reply to trinhiro [2006-05-16 16:08:56 +0000 UTC]

it started out as a instance of conflicting orientations. (Faces go up and down and flames go left?).
the shot was taken with me hovering over the flame,
but the result looked like i was inhaling the flame, so i spun it that way.

This picture looks interesting. This time, the flame is going towards the person, who is doing the inhaling. Well, it is interesting how you managed to get the flame in that (horizontal) position. The lighting from the flame is perfect as it sets up the photo's mood.

I like this piece, it very daring. I really like the simplicity of this piece and that the face is glowing in the matches' light, creates a sunlight glow, quite unearthy on the face. But it does create a religious effect. Maybe a light of hope and pray. What's daring is that the flame almost drawing to her lips as she inhales. Thats fire is fasinating but very dangerous. Maybe having the piece wider or longer. Play around with the proportions. It's quite good to have a close up but still see more light that the fire created. Well done.
