Note: I loved Sonic's reaction from that one scene in the OVA and i just had to use it for something haha.
Was reading about Pokemon Black and White and it just hit me that there is now over 500 Pokemon... That is alot...
So I guess you cant really blame Dawn for thinking Sonic is a Pokemon. There is so many of them I wouldn't be surprised if sonic was accidentally counted as one.
Dawn is just doing what we ALL do when we try to catch a legendary 'Pokemon', get it to red life, then throw every single Pokeball in our bag until we catch it.
And when all hope is lost..... Throw your Master Ball
Unfortunately it looks like Dawn just wasted her one...

*lol* poor Sonic.. You would think that after ALL of those pokeballs she threw at him all FAILED in catching him, she'd take the hint that he was telling the truth about not being a pokemon, especially if NONE of them bothered to open up at all when they hit him like the Master ball did. *lol*
Though why the heck didn't she give up after the first or second attempt I don't know. I mean for all she knew, the ONLY other reason why the pokeballs wouldn't work on Sonic, was because he ALREADY had a registered 'trainer'. The number of times she and Ash made the mistake of trying to catch what they thought was a wild pokmon (if there are no other humans in sight to say otherwise *lol*), only for the pokeball to catch said pokemon for like 3 SECONDS before it immediately spit the pokemon back out.
In the anime, the balls are all programmed to automatically reject a capture if the pokemon its capturing already has a owner.
