It's no secret that I usually dislike symmetry. Your use of it here seems to have a bit more thought behind it than most. I can see subtle color variation between the sides, and I like that the point of focus is lower than absolute center, so kudos for that.

However I still think the image would be improved if it were framed differently. The things you did well could be taken a little bit further. My suggestion would be to rotate the entire thing 90 degrees clockwise and then crop it so the bottom edge is a skosh below the axis of symmetry. That would retain the "vortexy" feeling while making the image a bit more striking.

The second thing that bugs me about this image is the size. I feel like there is a lot of potential for really sweet details that I just am not seeing. In fact, a zoom into one of the more dense and 'texturey' parts of the fractal might create a really nice abstract. I can't say for sure from this view, but it's an idea--of course, I'm sure it would be an utter bitch to render.

Two final things: first, points for making a two-render composite; it's a technique I've been interested in for a long time and you do it well. Second, I love the colors.

I would be interested to see if the change suggested made a different impact.

I love the work and colors- I am drawn to items with motion.

Aww, well thank you.
I'm starting to think that it is my monitor that needs changing. It seems to screw with contrast and brightness that isn't under my control.

All right, I'll bite -- what do you think is wrong with it that you're not pleased with it?

It may just be my monitor that's showing it the way I'm seeing it. I'm not satisfied with the colors, mostly. The contrast seems to be off.

Yes, that can definitely be the problem. On the dual 22" LCDs at home, and the 17" here at work -- it's a wonderful variation. Muted without being too dark; and the right gradient that it's not ostentatious in the least.

In fact, looking at it, it reminds me of looking at tree rings on a stump, of a tree that is fossilizing.

I'd say you did a great job with it.

Your comment gives me a sigh of relief.
I also viewed this deviation on a separate monitor and it looked much different than what I see at home. So the monitor I have here hates me.

Thank you for your wonderful views.

You're welcome. Just look at the home monitor as a challenge and not a hindrance, and you'll be able to get through it all right
