I'm a mother...this speaks to me. I love the face...and how the hair is not as detailed--I WANT to see the child's face so this works. As a mother....I send you a hug...sometimes moms are just wrong.

it's simple, but i think it's beautiful. you've captured the child's expression well.

I too have experienced the pain of conditional mother love... it really warps your world but it has helped me make a lot of great writing
and obviously it has caused you to make some great art
how does the saying go? "one must suffer for art" obviously a lot of interpretations for that, I think its applicable though.
I would seriously consider buying a large matte print of this if you are interested in selling prints. I work with infants at a preschool and we are always looking for artistic representations of children to decorate with.
I think it is a fantastic piece just the way it is

I think the saying is true to an extent. The best art probably does come out of pain and suffering, but then again, there is so much art that displays 'fake' pain, things that are not triggered by real pain, but more of a clichΓ© sort of thing if that makes sense.
I feel honored that you consider buying a print of this. I used to make prints of my drawings if people asked me to, but I no longer have a subscription, so that option no longer exists. I wouldn't mind though if you downloaded this and had it developed at a foto store. Much cheaper than a dA print, too.

really!
thank you
I it always a lovely feeling to surround oneself with good art. A lot of your work is just so breathtaking.
nothing good will ever come of cliches, except slam poetry of course

I can't judge the quality of those pictures, but it surprises me nonetheless how popular they are. For example, on deviantart, if a 13 year old uploads a picture that displays this anime girl that apparently is in oh so much pain - while for me this pic looks like all the other 389765874365 anime pics - it gets two million favs. What the?
This is one mad world.

My girlfriend's mother hates her. They haven't spoken in years. She ran away from her when she was 15, now she's 21. Just know that you're a good person living a positive and productive life and you won't have to worry about her. I know it sucks, everybody wants the TV mom, but sometimes it's just not there, and it's not healthy to force it.
I hope you can iron out your differences, but just be YOU, be productive and positive, and she can't help but be proud of you when she's honest with herself.
I'm adding you to my watch list, we have too much in common and I LOVE your art!
Keep smiling, brighter days always lay ahead :sunshine:

Beautiful. I'm sorry to hear that things aren't going well between you and your mother though. If it makes you feel any better though, my life is currently going down the toilet at an unprecidented speed for now. Either way, if you want someone to talk to, i'm here

I've been looking at this a bit more and may I suggest an area of work when you're completing it? The wrist is the only part that I can see hwew that needs work on it. I love the chubby neck, maybe a chubby wrist would look good too?
Obvoiusly, if you're working from a picture you can tell me to be quiet

I agree with Delerith. I think darkening the hair or adding any more would only take away from the child's face. You draw people very well.
And I'm sorry things are rough between you and your mother.

I like the imcompletedness too it. Reminds me of one of DiVinci's works.

I was trying to think who it reminded me of and you're right, the unfinished look is very da vinci.
