They're side characters, mostly unimportant to the plot and only serve the purpose of existing due to circumstance. I'd honestly say be thankful they have an upper body.

This is not an excuse, effort should not change just due to a characters importance. The characters in the comic are already farley simple, what they look like is like what a tattoo or a background drawing in a comic should look like. Not a character in of it's self.

Wasn't mean to be an excuse, more so a joke on things, really through the amount of effort put into the design is up to the artist and I don't think the parents design needs more attention, the only negative thing I would say is they shouldn't be put in centre frame or by themself in a frame because of the design. Overall I'd say the design fits what we know about the characters, plain and boring.
