Caesar never crosses the Rubicon.  The Republic never falls.  The Empire never rises.  Rome stays in power until the sci-fi era.  The militarists terraform and occupy mars while the "old guard" Republicans make a garden world out of Earth.  Power conflicts occur, war, all the fun stuff

Have they some retards to our tech ? (I mean not in the story if they have space ships lol but in their time evolution)
Because I read a sci-fi story where Rome had some trouble to develop technologies because of the rigidity of his situation.
No falls no evolution was one of the themes of the novel.

It actually is the case that Rome refused superior tech at times.  For instance, they refused large machines to build Colosseums because it was more important to allow citizens and artisans to be part of the process "for the glory of Rome."  Machines would have created less effort and less involvement and turned it into more of a construction project rather than a social one.  It's one of the things I like about Rome's cultural attitudes.

Wow, this is like one of the slowest answer Ive ever got. Where have you been?
Anyway, I like that idea of "glory of Rome" and social project. That's so cool!
