Yang Xiao Long! Fiery Hot personality and same story in the looks! BOY WAS SHE FUN TO PAINT! I knew from the start that id have way more fun with yang than the other 3! Working on the golden hair and just her general character design and palette was so fun to do! At last this conc...ludes the RWBY slate BUT don't think that this is all it is! There's still a few more surprises in store for these 4 pieces so keep an eye out!

I like this pic a lot. It's very detailed, and you did a good job with the coloring, especially the flames. I think I can feel their warmth. She looks ready to fight. But it seems you messed up her eye colors. Her natural eye color is lilac. But when she becomes angry, or empowered by her Semblance, they turn into glowing red. Do you think it would be possible to fix?

I'm very glad you like it and I am aware of the nature of Yang's eye color even in her semblance. This isn't the first time its brought up lol. However part of working with colors in this style of painting is being aware of contrasting and complementary colors. The moreΒ blue-ish purple color with the sprouting yellow crown around the pupil was very much intentional because Lilac doesn't complement too well with a glowing crimson red. Both colors are very dim and lack the intensity I wanted to show when yang transitions into her semblance. So insteadΒ I chose a purple that transitions into a sky blue and made the initiation of her semblance eye color changeΒ to a Yellow transitioning into a crimson orange in order to make it POP and seem more intense. I wanted to make it look like an eclipsed sun peering out into a blue sky to simulate the sudden burst of energy she goes through when activating her semblance. It was just my own artistic interpretation so its not really something I want to "fix". I hope it doesn't bother you too much c:

So what you are saying is, in order to make the "Semblance turn on" more noticeable and to make it more like a solar eclipse, you changed her eye color to a sky blue. This way when she "flares on", it looks like the "eclipse" turned the "sky" blood red/fire red.
... Now I can't see this any other way. Her official lilac eye color makes her eye color switch look less... poetic. Then again, the purple just fades into red.

Exactly! I'm glad my explanation was understandable! Regardless of this though, it is my own expression and interpretation of her semblance transition. Don't let that devalue the original which has its own artistic merit and beauty to it c:
