Description Companion art piece to "If It Meant Living: Beyond - Ch. 12: Lost Souls": [link]

The title is from Tennyson's "Ulysses," the poem she reads at her father's grave.

I wasn't too fond of Ash's redesign, but I still loved the fact that she could quote poets like Tennyson, as well as her character depth showing that she's more than just a pretty face.

Yeah, her redesign is something of a mixed bag, but she definitely grew a lot as a person (as a character) from ME1 to ME3, and her personality is quite well realized in the game.

Her hair really bothered me, it didn't make sense for a woman who was born into a military family, carrying on a military tradition, to have long flowing hair, and I noticed some changes in Ash's personality. Such as the disappearance of her belief in god, with her deep belief, that's something that wouldn't go away without a bang. And, despite all the hate that Ash had received during ME, the things that people felt were wrong with her was ultimately what made her a great character.

If it helps, there was apparently a deleted scene between Shepard and Ashley which would imply she had not lost her belief in God (she asks him about what he remembers from being "dead", probing about the afterlife): [link] and [link] . In the absence of this scene, I think it's not so much that it went away, as it wasn't spotlighted.

It's really too bad, I thought it was rather touching, and unlike what the article said, it really didn't say that there's no afterlife, but brings in Shepard's doubt about the resurrection, and I have this feeling that there was probably more to that plotline, but might have been cut out due to time constraints, or deemed too inflammatory.

Sadly, it was more likely deemed too inflammatory; which is a shame, it would have been a quite moving scene :/

Somehow I suspect that it was the Ash-bashers that caused Ashley/Kaidan to disappear for half of ME3. Kinda my conspiracy theory, so far I have two people who believe it.
