Description kinda looks like a classic portrait to me. not a staged one though. i pointed the camera at him and within the first second after he looked up i released the shutter.

been going through your gallery and out of all pictures ive seen I think this one is the most striking to me. This is what photojournalism is all about in my opinion. Taking that striking image in that split second you are given the opportunity, right on the streets. I love it!

it is so Andre Kertesz, I think that is who I am thinking of. there is a shot called 'My Friend Brassai', if you find it you will see the rresemblence

The eye-contact makes this photo. It's amazing how you manage to stick that 5d tank in people's faces and still produce high quality streetshots

I find this photo extremely impressive. Wat een blik! Goede compositie, mooi contrast en bijna too good to be true licht. Super!

"hmm i like these ppl selling stuff on the streets
their faces and expressions are always fine.. and i love how they don't get shy
or different noticing the camera"
and you were true. they also do. you just caught the right moment: when he looked up but still didn't react.
simple but nice!

Gosh...that is one heck of a photograph.
Like =rapidvision, I am also too chicken to do something like this.
He looks kind of scary, like one of those man who eats kids for breakfast, weren't you intimidated?

Okay, that was a stupid question. Judging from your gallery, you have no fear of such things.

You see, I am currently doing an art project that involves me going up to strangers and asking whether I can photograph them. I guess it would be easier if you just snap and walk away instead of having to get their names and their nationalities like what I have to do with the project. Gah...I was a nervous wreck two days ago when I did it, and I have to do it again coming Tuesday because I need many more photographs.

there's less agression in the world then the media would like you to believe. as i replied before, a smile helps a lot. i guess you just have to be brave and take a couple of shots and find out yourself.
of course there are moments where people react aggrevated and give you a pissed off look or shouts, but don't let that damage your inspiration or photograph mood. those moments don't weigh up to the feeling you get when you just made a catching shot
ps: pissed off people can be cool too -> [link]

thats a shame about your project btw, when you ask people pose. after this shot i saw a girl making a photo of the man as well but he was already aware now, he started smiling and all and i didn't think it looked really natural anymore.

Wow, thanks. That was actually quite encouraging.

Yeah, I agree with you, that photograph did turn out rather nice.

Some people did have unnatural poses when I took their photographs, but I only need 24 photographs, so I figured I could take as many as possible and pick the ones that are good. I actually tried a few ways of making it better, I think carrying out a conversation is the best way. They would laugh very naturally if something funny was said and have all sorts of expressions during different parts of the conversation. So it isn't too bad.
