Don't worry, you're not alone humans have 'managers', and 'bullies' that they have to subordinate to as well XDlol
But the thing I love about this shot is that it shows the OMega in a different light - he's subordinating.......... FOR NOW.lol This one looks like he may eventually challenge the Alpha one day and take his place, the expression he has is so full of retaliation o.o I've never seen that before.

Renki is still with us; it was his brother Reudi who passed away! ***bangs head on desk***
As far as these wolves are concerned, yes, I do have a bond with them. 
No, I don't work at Wolf Park. But I've been going there to photograph for many years. I first met Tristan when he was about a year old. When he died, he was almost 15 years old. So it's been a long time that I've been going and, at Wolf Park, photographers get to go in with the pack so you really get to know the wolves and they you. I've been in with the pack seven times now over the years. I swear Tristan knew me. At least I tell myself that....and others have too!
But yes, the bond is deep....

A pack has a ranking order for each one in it. One alpha and one omega. And each one in between. Even though it sounds awful to be the omega, and yes, it's not a great position; it's an important position for the overall welfare of the pack. It is tough to be the omega. However, if you think about it, even in human society, there are omegas to a degree. 
Sorry, sometimes I call him Reudi and sometime Renki. They are brothers and I often get them mixed up. But it's really Renki! He and his father Tristan (the alpha) are no longer in the main pack. They were eventually removed for their own protection.

Tristan was deposed as the alpha by his son Wolfgang. This is done by an outright challenge or, in simple terms, a fight. Tristan, having lost his ranking in the pack, was removed for his physical protection. In order to prevent serious injury to Tristan, the staff intervened and removed Tristan during the challenge. In the wild, Tristan would have either been killed or would have been forced to leave the pack.
Although I don't have definite details about Renki, I believe he was removed when he was getting too injured as well. So the decision was made to remove him for his safety. His brother Reudi is now the omega.

Tristan and Renki live quite happily together! Last time I was there, at my special request, we visited them in their new "home" and they were doing quite well. Renki even knocked me on my butt in the mud! Nice boy!
