Baqa, pronounced bah-KAH, is Urdu for "Survival, Immortality"

Baqa is a deep-sea dwelling frig from the Devonian Period (approx. 410 Million years ago, according to conventional records of prehistoric evolution). He is blind, due to the fact that he dwells in the Abyssopelagic Zone, which makes eyesight based on sunlight penetration useless. Instead, Baqa, like many deep-sea dwellers, uses an extremely sensitive sense of smell and he can "see" the auras of electricity given off by other creatures.

Baqa is armored, due to the immense pressure of his environment. Were he to rise to the surface of the ocean quickly, he would bloat and die. He has a claw for a left paw, and a lobster-type tail. His bioluminescent tongue is used to lure unsuspecting prey into his waiting jaws. He also has bioluminescent markings along his tail, fins, and snout, which he can flash in a specific pattern during mating seasons to attract a mate, or dim entirely when he is hunting or hiding. The barbs on his dorsal fins and tail can inject an extremely potent paralytic toxin, which aids in hunting or as an advantage in a fight. His breath is visible, as it is with all Frigs, and shifts between purple and teal, glowing brighter as it cools. This is useful for misleading other predators, who may be attracted to the glow.

Baqa is so old that it is unknown whether or not he predates the creation of the Abyssal and Tidal Courts, and his affiliation is therefore also unknown. He does not communicate with other Frigs in a traditional sense, as most Frigs do not dwell below the Mesopelagic Zone of the Ocean. He also does not sing or echo-locate, but instead can communicate using his bioluminescent patterns and by controlling his electromagnetic aura. His ancient origins and inability or unwillingness (most are not sure which) to communicate in a traditional manner makes approaching Baqa a challenge. Which is just as well, since he has a tendency during lean years to consume even other deep-sea Frigate Chasers who get curious at the wrong time.
