After Temarek the Tenrec broke him into pieces, two fragments of Demicos basically kicked Temarek's soul out of him and tore his body into two, while the third part, the gargoyle, flew away. In a last bit of effort, Temarek's soul erased Demicos's memory of being the black hole and warped them to separate parts of the planet.
The Demicos here found his own objective to build an army of the dead. It took many, many years to perfect, but he was able to resurrect hoards of the undead. The downside is that they are extremely weak and when there's more, they are even weaker. Thus, if he takes control of spirits, he would be able to have a much stronger army....
.... And plunge the world into darkness...

What does he want with Team Wild Heart, you may ask...
Simple... Jen's Ghost Trio, Trello's demon, and what ever Nevi and Padme can provide...
