Staurolite is the scientific name for the gemstone, but Fairy stone is the nickname; so the same could be said for formal/informal. And I'm not entirely sure myself how the fusion would be planned out.. from what I heard, fusions are literally conversations between 2+ gems; the more toxic/less those involved communicate well, the more monstrous the fusion becomes. Not sure how Fairy Stone would fair since they literally panic and their vision on life is so skewered that it's hard to calm them down.

the thing with dion is that she was a homeworld gem that just did what she was asked to and just doesnt care for much, like amethyst, she just wants to chill. she is super passive-aggressive (" eh whatever") and would most likely calm staurolite at least a little when they fuse.
depending on how long they've known each other, dion might be un or comfortable with them with could throw off their fusion a bit. like you said, "the more monstrous the fusion becomes". but then again it's my excuse to draw creepy abominations. c:

Fairy stone's alignment lies in-between where home world really makes them uncomfortable due to the controlling nature of the place, but doesn't see a place to flee too. I don't mind creepy abominations. For them it's really just worrying whether people will use them or if there's trouble. If those worries are eased they're easier to work with.
Either way is fine, scary fusion or semi-peaceful.

Dion is the same as fairy stone. although they dont have a good reason to hate love homeworld. they've been been able to quietly yet subconsciously rebel aganist homeworld as they work for them. they would listen to fairy stone's worries about homeworld's nature and escort her to earth or something. so in an way, they wouldnt mind being with fairy and would enjoy bringing mayhem just for the fun of mocking the homeworld.
you could say dion is a mix of mai and sov and a hint of vris
