Description How's this for a mind-screw? It seems to be a general consensus that the difference between Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny is that latter wears clothes and the former doesn't, but really, it doesn't end there: [link] (Congratulations, I just linked you to TV Tropes. You now have something to do for the next 5 hours. )

So this was just a little experiment in drawing each of them in the other's level of anthropomorphism, The Looney Tunes Show notwithstanding, of course. Actually I think I made Lola's "level" to be a bit more humanoid than she appeared in Space Jam (I know I took liberties with height difference), and there's so much variation in the way Bugs has been drawn over the years that his exact "level" is difficult to determine, but my point still stands. It was an interesting little exercise, that's for sure.

Here is a general animal anthropomorphism sliding scale guide that might be helpful.

Lola actually makes the translation rather well (though she maybe suits better with some attire anyway). Kinda reminds me of what the Looney Tunes Show did to her, making her more rubberhose and goofy, though I think you compromised with the feminine style better.

I think rubberhose limbs are the key to something like that; aside from her slightly more humanoid torso, TLTS Lola doesn't really warrant clothes any more than Bugs does. Here I just took that a step further and made her body no less feminine than Bugs, as artists tend to associate 'feminine' with human female features when drawing female animals, while usually not holding male characters to the same standard.

So basically the only stereotypically feminine features I used when drawing Lola was her eyelashes and hair.

The second season Looney Tunes Show Lola has a more distinctly humanoid body with more distinct breasts than the first season TLTS one.

There is a deviation done by ~E-122-Psi called Jungle Becky Colored featuring a Jungle Book version of Rebecca Cunningham that talks about and shows how the deviant artist deanthroed the character so that she doesn't fall into the Humanoid Female Animal trope.

Bugs Bunny is a Funny Animal or Civilized Animal while Lola Bunny is a Petting Zoo Person.

Other examples of Humanoid Female Animal include Riff Raff (male cat) and Cleo (female cat) of Heathcliff and The Catillac Cats, Tom and Butch (male cats) and Toodles Galore and many other female cats in Tom and Jerry, Baloo (male bear) and Rebecca Cunningham (female bear) in Tale Spin, Monterey Jack (male mouse) and Gadget (female mouse) Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, and Chip n' Dale (male chipmunks) and Clarice (female chipmunk). One inversion of this trope is with Tai Lung (male snow leopard) and the Wu Sisters (female snow leopards) from the Kung Fu Panda movies, specials, and TV series.

Quite so, this "trope" is very prevalent. I think it's generally accepted as the norm and rarely questioned because it's so widespread in cartoons, which is why people won't bat an eyelash at how out of place a character like Lola looks among the rest of the Looney Tunes, male or female. Usually people criticize her "less looney" personality instead of her blatantly fanservicey physical features, Nostalgia Critic notwithstanding.

There are some aversions to this trope, including Penelope Pussycat (Looney Tunes), Mrs. Brisby (The Secret of NIMH), Cindy Bear (Yogi Bear), Slappy Squirrel (Animaniacs), and Daisy Duck. Unlike many anthropomorphic female animal characters, they keep the basic body shape of their species.

Gadget and Rebecca are a bit more humanoid, but they are not totally humanoid like Lola Bunny, Cleo, or Minerva Mink (Animaniacs).

Gah! I was hoping that since you've already seen particular entry my link wouldn't cause the site to suck away any more of your time that it already has...from now in in the unlikely event that I plan to put another TVT link in a description like this I'll provide you with advance warning.

Actually it was our little conversation on the subject last year that gave me the inspiration to draw this, so I have you to thank for it.

Thanks again, Riki!!!

oh yeah i've definitely been there before but every time i return i end up clicking on another link and then another and another and when i look up the sun has come up.

but that's cool.

it actually IS a bit disturbing seeing Lola without clothes even though it's NOT in the case of... i dunno, Fifi or ah, it's best not to think about it. if Sonic took his gloves and shoes off, would he be naked? XDDD

but that's aside from the fact that once again you've done a fantastic job. particularly dig you take on Bugs with the carrot. vintage Gui white background seem so simplistic, but at the same time they aren't and they add a level of depth and realism. i dunno how you do it! i'm too scared to try! XDDDD

GuiMontag In reply to 8OV [2012-09-14 16:31:06 +0000 UTC]

It's probably disturbing because you're so used to seeing Lola with a humanoid body that it's difficult to process the fact that she has the same body as Bugs in this pic. I know at first I had a hard time not perceiving her that way when I finished drawing her. But once you get past that roadblock you realize that Lola without clothes is no less innocent than Bugs without clothes as long as she doesn't have her Space Jam body.

It's funny you should mention Sonic, as I'm reminded of Sally Acorn who DOES have a human-like figure and yet only wears a vest and boots...it's pretty clear that people think of her as more 'naked' than Sonic despite them both having about the same amount of clothing, judging by all the attention she gets.

^^I definitely agree this qualifies as vintage, as I realize this is my first time both drawing Bugs in his official style in a long time. The white background seemed like the best choice for this kind of pic, and I know you could pull off the same look if you tried it. No need to be scared by it, my friend!

Sally was the first thing that came to mind and... honestly i was always disturbed by that. probably because they totally screwed that up having her best friend, Bunny dressed like Rogue.

yeah.

i'm running late so i'll write more later.

Bunny dressed like Rogue you say? Actually that doesn't sound too different than what she normally wears. Rogue herself on the other hand, now THAT'S a prime example of the a Sonic character that couldn't get away with going without clothes like Sally does.
