Very nice, this is almost exactly how we do it in my stage makeup class. But better than petroleum jelly, cheap hair gel is good for smoothing out the wax. It dries matte and you can skip the powdering step.

I like to use KY Jelly instead of Vaseline because it's water based instead of oil based, so it just lies on top of the wax instead of sinking in. Haha but that's waaay more embarrassing to buy, and your cuts are perfect anyways

Somebody else also told me that in their class they used cheap hair gel, to smooth out the edges, it dries matte and you don't even have to powder !

Haha... it's funny you say semi cheap. My bf was like, great you did a tutorial now the only thing they have to buy is $ 300 of make-up products. Haha I guess there's a lot of optional thingies though in my tutorial.
The wax I use cost $50 with a student discount, and most of my cream colors ( I have many different kinds are priced between $15 and $30) etc etc...spirit gum is pretty cheap though , but really you can get everything I used in different quality to suit your needs. When I first started doing special FX, I was using cheap make-up that I bought in a dollars store..and used that for bruising and all lol.
