Orlando Bloom as Legolas, in pencil and charcoal.I wasn't sure if I wanted to draw him because so many people do and he's kinda overrated, but I found this picture and I'd never seen anyone draw it before. I thought he looked kinda cute in it anyway. After staring at it sense August, I have changed my mind; I want to burn all the reference pictures because I am so sick of them.
My drawing has tons of issues and the scanner once again butchered it, but for a first attempt with charcoal I'm fairly happy with it. Mostly I'm just happy that it's done

Ooooh, nice job on some of the facial planes--like near his jaw especially, the detail there is great
I think his ears are maybe a little small? But overall the only thing that undermined the realism for me was the hair on his left side. Dunno why but it looks off--too bright, maybe? But yeah, otherwise any errors don't stand out as dealbreaking

Yeah, his ear is WAY too small, haha. I realized this after I'd started the hair and couldn't fix it. The hair has issues too... Brightness could be the problem definitely, especially with the crappiness of the scan added in, and I also really think it could be the shape. Since you said the hair on his left side I'm assuming you meant the right of the picture?

Why thank you! That hair there is the one thing in all my drawings that I am most proud of, heh. I give partial credit to my charcoal pencil, though, because charcoal is just so wonderful to use.

You should get some! It looks like a thick pencil, but since it's so soft it's blacker and blends better than a pencil. You can even just get some on your finger and draw like that.

oh that's pretty cool, my teacher for my graphics class supplied us with blending tools and ebony pencils.. xD that's it. but it helps

they just give you a dark shade basically. they're like black

Yeah pretty much. except the lead or whatever is thicker like a colored pencil.

not that much, actually. It's mostly charcoal, and a little charcoal goes a long way. After I finished, the charcoal pencil was hardly any duller than when I started.
