Description
Dyana had fortunately been able to help cool the situation with Darque walking in on Sephira having accidentally kidnapped her a few moments prior after Sephira had removed her gag at her own request. Upon informing Darque that Sephira had indeed been the captive that Parasyte brought in and that the intruders were friends of hers, Darque had willingly released Cass and Val. Funnily enough, Parasyte had sent Dyana to check up on Sephira and take her something to eat and drink- both of which got spilled onto the floor when Sephira jumped her- since she wouldn't accept anything from him, all without knowing that Sephira and Dyana were related (in a sense, at least). Before Darque asked the girls exactly what was going on, she'd sent Dyana to get some more water for the parched Sephira and, at her mermaid friend's request, some towels. To say Sephira did not react well to learning that Darque, and Dyana by extension, worked for Parasyte was definitely an understatement and she could hear Sephira yelling about it from down the hall as several of the other swimsuit maids were trying to see what was going on.By the time Dyana returned with the requested items, the girls had finished informing Darque of their version of the events of that night. Sephira wordlessly took the water bottle and downed its contents while the other girls helped Himeko towel off so she could return to her human form.
"And so that's why you jumped Dyana when she was sent to check up on you ," Darque sighed after receiving the last bit of information on the current events. She sounded both tired and annoyed at having been out of the loop.
"What else was I supposed to do after being kidnapped and brought here?!" Sephira glared. She had not calmed down at all even after finally being able to quench her thirst. "And if Aunt Dyana hadn't vouched for them being my friends because she met them the other day, what was going to stop you from turning them into your swimsuit maids anyway?!"
"Nothing about your kidnapping was my fault," Darque snapped back. "All of this was the boss's doing and he told me nothing about any of it. The only reason you were brought here is because it was the closest place."
"Even so, why would you even keep Aunt Dyana around a dangerous man like him?!" Sephira shouted again. "Let along work for him yourself!"
Darque took a deep breath and responded more calmly this time with, "He had said you were entirely uncooperative when he spoke with you. And yet, all you had to do was say you're Dyne and Allie's daughter and he'd have let you go per the agreement they made. He still thinks your two older sisters are his only children."
"I'm the oldest!" Sephira argued. "He's also lucky he didn't try and target Mazda the same way, or else I'd wring his neck myself even before Alexus got her hands on him! After what he put me and my friends through tonight, I just may do so anyway the next time I see him!"
Darque gave Sephira a pitiful look as she stated, "You have no valid reason to hate him as much as you do, you know. He's done nothing to you before this."
"He's pure evil!" Sephira raised her voice again as her vengeful emotions rose to the surface. "The Parasyte I know about murdered a lot of friends back home! He's the reason why my birth father had to leave Mom and me for our own protection and why I never met him! He's why Mom sent me here and had to sacrifice her life while he was trying to murder her! I'll never forgive him! Never!"
"That was your world, girl!" Darque suddenly stomped her foot akin to a judge demanding order by pounding a gavel, and it was enough to get Sephira to stop ranting. "Things are different here, and you've seen plenty of evidence of that before now."
"You're just defending him because you work for him!" Sephira was obviously unconvinced. "You always did, even before I met you!" She then pointed an accusing finger at Darque, "Which, I remind you, you never told me, by the way!"
"I'm defending him because I know him, unlike you," Darque stated matter-of-factly. "Yes, we've been acquainted a very long time, he and I. There's a story behind that, but I'm not interested in sharing that at the moment and I quite doubt you'd listen if I were." Darque sighed again and crossed her arms, prompting Sephira to give her a look of recognition as Parasyte tended to do the same. "True, he's no saint, but he's no murderer either. I may not like him myself at times, and certainly not right now, but I will not stand for anyone making those kinds of baseless accusations against him," Darque then raised her own voice again, "even if she shows a good deal of promise otherwise as a future villainess!"
Sephira's face turned to shock and intimidation as she took a tentative step back. In reading her face, Dyana could see she was surprised at both Darque's outburst and at receiving that bit of praise at the end, even despite the situation.
"You may not believe what I'm saying," Darque shrugged but her eyes showed no sign of kidding, "fine. I've lied before when I felt it necessary, and maybe it's possible I'm doing that right now-" as she said that, her face and hair began changing to reflect Sephira's own, complete with an identical vocal match as she continued, "I'm very good at concealing my true self when I want to, you know~"
Sephira was at a loss for words and just stared at Darque until she reverted to her normal self a few moments later.
"But ask your Aunt Dyana about him," Darque only continued. "Unless you think she'll lie for her mistress over being truthful to her niece."
Sephira's jaw dropped slightly as she had not expected that question. Her eyes turned towards Dyana, who could only give her a little wave and soft smile.
Darque still wasn't done as she continued still with, "Then ask your father, mother, other aunts, or any of their little group how they let him keep causing trouble if he was as vile as the one you knew. If so, does that make any kind of sense at all?"
Sephira hadn't calmed down so much as realized she couldn't offer another rebuttal as she stammered, "W-well, I guess not..." in response.
"Or hell," Darque wasn't going to let her onslaught end any time soon, "even check with a few of the heroines he regularly kidnaps while you're at it. They may vouch for him being relatively harmless, and sometimes I wonder if one or two might actually have romantic feelings for the guy. Stranger things have happened," she then smirked, "right?"
Dyana watched Sephira's face go a bit red as she was obviously thinking about someone in the same way Dyana liked to think about her mistress as Sephira could only croak out a little, "Ummm... m-maybe?"
"And if you still don't believe them," Darque had set her up for a figurative deathblow, "your friend Elica can tell you if someone's lying, correct? Ask her as well and see what she says, especially since she's already been kidnapped by him in the past ."
Dyana could see that Sephira knew she had lost, but wasn't about to admit it as she remained silent and could only fidget uncomfortably while spinning the gears in her mind to try and come up with another counterargument.
"Believe what you want, Sephira," Darque frowned at the silence. "It's not my job to convince you if you've already made up your mind... and a certain other someone needs my attention more than you do right now. I'm not in the mood for two lengthy arguments today, thank you very much. I'll tell the maids to let you and your friends leave, so go on and get out of here. Let's go, Dyana." With that and a look of obvious annoyance on her face that Sephira could only watch, Darque turned away and headed out of that room.
"C-coming, mistress," Dyana bowed to the four girls before turning and following after as well. As she also left, she heard the snippets of conversation the other three girls had been having that had been drowned out by Sephira and Darque's shouting at each other.
"Cass-chan, Val-chan," Himeko sounded apologetic, "I'm so, so sorry for not telling you about my secret sooner. I saw the shocked look you gave me when you were brought in here and saw me like that, Cass-chan."
"It's okay, Himeko," Cass assured her, "And I was more surprised to see you in here in general than seeing you're a mermaid since the hints you kept dropping made it pretty obvious after a while. Val and I are used to people having to keep secrets around us so we wouldn't have pressed you on the matter. Mama's even said that she'd have to kill us if we found out some of the things she knows."
"You say that with such a straight face that it scares me..." Himeko whimpered.
"Though when you think about everything that happened tonight," Val chuckled, "it's actually pretty funny. I haven't had this much fun in quite a while."
Dyana smiled to herself as she stepped out of earshot and felt comfortable that Sephira's friends would be able to continue watching over here, even if they all ended up getting themselves in trouble again in the future. As for now, she had to be ready to offer Darque that massage again once she finished giving Parasyte a piece of her mind.

"Oh, Himeko, I was wondering something else."
"What is it, Cass-chan?"
"You're not wearing them right now but, when Darque took on your form, she was wearing your sandals and anklets. Why is that when she was basing your form on what she saw of you on the camera?"
"A mistake on the part of the creator when making that scene and forgetting the shoes and anklets weren't supposed to be there. By the time he realized it, it was too late to fix the original scenes and he didn't want to remake them from scratch."
"That's one good reason why TV series and movies have separate continuity directors when possible."
"Exactly, Val-chan."
"No breaking the fourth wall, you three, even in post-scene dialogue!"
"I think this is more of a blooper reel, Sephira-chan."
"Did you spend the other half of the rainy season watching movies like that along with learning how to paint?"
"I had to do something..."
