Description I love dragon and this is getting closer to my dream dragon. The proportion is right and I like the long tail. The next upgrade should be spines followed by scales.

Paper: Japanese foil (gold) of 50cm square size.

Credits: Satoshi Kamiya's new book, I shaped the legs of my dragon according to his ancient dragon model, it has a very efficient method of narrowing thick points.

As always comments and suggestions are welcomed

my icon? ... yea, i know
if only you put the black one i'd definitely fav it.
this one (though the details are all visible) looks a bit "unfinished"

Oh, my! You're the fucking man!!!

Great design. I love the shape and proportions of the body

Thank's Pepius. Since you practice origami, I can explain more about the design concept behind this model. It is basically similar to my demonman model. Outer edge covered with pleats which the used for folding the head, toes, extending the tail and also the wings. If I don't add pleats to the edge, it become a simple base... my personal design, I call it dragon base! it can probably be used to make a simple dragon with a crane head

Thank's again for the comment and

Well, I think I get the idea of how it goes, but that doesn't detract a single bit from it's coolness
Is better than lots of sculpted (not folded) dragons that I've seen. Man, you could even put it next to a McFarlane's toys figure and it'd still look great!

Thank's for the compliments What I like about origami is reproducibility, the folding sequence are not abstract, it is all based on reference, hence I can always make duplicate of the same model as much as I like Maybe I can make origami Toys... but not very economical, can't be mass produced.

True. One of its awesomeness is the fact that, given some (usually) easy to understand instructions (diagrams) you can make almost-exact copies of the original work. That and the fact that you can make really cool tridimensional figures to put on your desk from a single sheet of paper...

As for toys, I see it a bit difficult. I'd like to sell models, but I think it will be a bit difficult to convince people to pay for paper... Although the awesomeness of your models should convinve everyone

Actually, some people has been trying to sell origami boxes folded with really nice papers as well as other simple origami stuff folded with nice addition of shiny materials. Of course, that is not ethical and unfair for the author. See my new journal entry, someone just ask me this question

Mmm, I've read the thread and that's an Interesting question. I agree with the copyright concept you portrayed, but my concern wasn't about copyright stuff, but rather than, when "non-folders" see an origami piece, they think "cool!" but they don't consider the amount of time invested in folding that particular figure, even if you don't consider the whole design process but just the time spent folding that particular piece. I don't really know since I haven't tryed, and I guess in places like Japan where origami is more widespread it'd be easier to sell them, but I'm afraid that if you try to sell figures considering the time they take, people will think it's too expensive because "it's only paper"

Yes, I think to overcome the "only paper" problem, you can try to use nice paper such as elephant hide paper or foil paper that is not expensive but aesthetically more pleasant and expensive looking Then you can always paint the model stiff to add more value into the looks. Final touch would include buying a plastic/ glass box to store the model so people won't be able to notice how light weighted the origami pieces are because light weight stuff are usually cheap

Thank you so much for the visit and comment Yes, I experimented several time using different proportions. If I get longer tail and neck, the legs become short, this one is optimum

Heehee. That's a funny image - a poor dragon with its neck growing and shrinking, with legs changing accordingly ^_^
