Description
The aim of origami to catch the essence of an object using geometrical shapeI like the locking mechanism I discover to form the rounded hip and allowing the model to be cleanly finished, it even looked nice from below
From a duo color 15cm square origami paper.
I promise something more complex next time

awe bugger. i did ask you this question before. T_T;;
i have another question. do you just start off with the basic folds when you try making your stuff? how do you know which folds will lead to what? like your griffon or the mouse.

Really? Oh so sorry But please ask me again
Hm... good question, I may open a new journal title for that question you ask.
Gryphon and mouse are two oposite genre of origami design. Gryphon being complex while mouse being simple.
For complex design, I think it is essential to have a good foundation or a good base that defines the length of wings, legs, tails, heads or whatever details you want to add on the finished model. From base to the finished model it is all about personal taste, how I like to shape the beak of my gryphon may not be others preference.
For simple design, like my mouse, lion, welsh corgi, it is all about doodling, yes pure trial and error folding until I get the shape I like, usually I even began without no topic in mind until a certain shape start to gave me idea and direction on what model should I make.
So in conclusion, complex model = base + doodling to finish; and simple model = purely doodling from start to end
I hope that helps
ps: a base can usually be used for various model, e.g. my gryphon and firedrake came from the same base while my pegasus and hippogriff (not yet online) also come from same base

Cuuuuuuuuuute! I love it It's the essence of a mouse, and yes, the round shape is very nice. It reminds me of some mouse shaped markers that were pretty common when I was a kid...

Minimalistic it may well be, but you do have the geometry quite perfect.
There's no way it'd be mistaken for a different animal.
Tell us more about this 'locking mechanism'.
I suppose you know we're all going to be waiting for one of your tutorials on each of your lesser difficulty works, now.
Thank you for the Corgi tutorial, btw. I haven't yet gotten the chance to try it, but I fully intend to.
Well done!

Thank you very much the locking mechanism, is what made this model clean from below, but at the same time the paper layers won't spread out. It brought all the raw edges to the center line of the model so that color change at the tail is possible
Hm.. rather difficult to describe in words, put up the diagram later and you'll see my point

This is so cute! Sometimes I can figure out how things are folded without the patterns with the simple ones. I love all your origami....do you make money with your designs? O.o I've posted some folded ribbon star designs and I will be posting more square origami pieces.

That is one of the cutest origami creatures I have ever seen. I didn't see the instructions in your gallery... Either they're not there or I'm not looking with my open eye?
I once tried to get into origami, and I did for a few weeks, then stopped... I should start again. Your work is inspiring me to do so haha

No I did not, the tail it self consisted of multiple layers which will bent easily and won't spread.
