Absolutely wonderful! I spent a majority of my day thinking about doing some kind of something for the day of silence (in the form of artwork) and kept coming up with these big, convoluted plans... yet I'm stunned by how something so simple can be so stunning. Thank you for your work, Kai

I'm proud to have participated! I'm glad you also decided to make this statement. There really isn't anything I can say that hasn't been said already, but I support the LGBT community, and I hope that soon more and more people will come around!

I forgot to till much later in my first period after I was already talking...I was very sad because I wanted to support my community, I personally have a 'boyfriend' thats a girl and I am a girl though I am more bi curious than anything..but I truely do love love LOVE this person to the ends of the earth...I felt absolutely HORRIBLE for NOT doing this today...I felt like shit to myself and others. But I got to yell at two kids today who were being assholes about gays...one saying they would SHOOT their own brother or friend if they every found out they were gay...oh but they were FINE with two girls but not two guys and that pissed me off. So I looked at him and said "I hope karma bites you HARD in the ass and gives you a gay son." Then he laughed and said he would shoot his son and I told him that I'd shoot him.
But besides that your picture is great and I applaud you, hug you and cry over your grand support for me and my community...I thank ALL of you out there that support us...it means so much to me and I know it does to the rest of the LGBT community! Thank you once again everyone...thank you so much

I did Day of Silence when I was in high school. I would still do it now, but I don't have class on Fridays and I sort of feel that the Day of Silence is most effective if you spend a lot of your time in a public institution like a high school, if you know what I mean.
I remember catching some flak about it because kids were saying how they didn't understand how being silent was proving anything. It proves a lot, not necessarily to anyone else, but if you do Day of Silence then you understand what it's like to have people judge you and misunderstand you, and just not be able to say anything about it.You have no chance to explain yourself and you know what's it's like to feel like you can't defend yourself against people's words.
I've felt like that for most of my life, not because of my sexuality, but because of other things. I've never felt like I was able to speak up about anything and it's a terrible, terrible feeling to have.
No one should ever have to feel that way and no one should be beaten, taunted, hurt, or discriminated against because of who they love.

Today was my fourth year in participating in DOS, only this year I did it in Canada (I moved there from the US about 6 months ago) and I was very surprised to find that very few people have heard of DOS--several even asked me what LGBT was.
One or two people were being asses about it, but overall most understood the cause. It isn't quite the same as the previous years though, when a LOT of people are dead silent--and boy you really notice. None the less, I got a lot of people talking and gave them index cards to read which explained DOS, some LGBT hate crime statistics, and LGBT hate crime victims' stories.

At my school (and I go to a fairly conservative school in Texas), they passed out shirts that said, "gay? fine by me" for people to wear today. As I was walking across campus today, a lot of people were gathered, wearing those shirts and tape over their mouths, taking a group photo. It was a really awesome moment to witness, and I wish I had been able to get a shirt so that I could have joined them.
Sometimes it's hard for me being a straight person at my conservative school who supports gay rights... I can't imagine how hard it must be for the GLBT community.

I didn't bother being silent. Instead I was the loudest kid in my class, which is opposite of my quietness.
And I was prepared to cuss and beat the shit out of anyone who picked on the kids who were silent.
Only one kid said, "Oh it's national fag day."
And as I left class I conveniently left my pen out the corner of my bag and swung it into her head as I left.
This cigarette has a temper.
I love your picture by the way, another kid put tape on his mouth like that too. You kept it simple down to earth but the black and white makes a good sullen feel.
Okay I'm done.

we have a gay-straight alliance league at my school and today we had a day of silence, I walked around with duct tape over my mouth and a red shirt. A lot of my friends did it, because my friend is the leader of the league. It was fun and cool to see a lot of straight people like myself, uniting and trying to do what was right. We did get some prejudice though, but we ignored them. Wonderful pic, it captures beauty in protest.

Unfortunately I forgot today was the Day of Silence, and whenever I remembered it was after I spoke . Not going to miss it next year though.
Fully support the LGBT community, since EVERYONE deserves equal rights and no one should be discriminated against, or bullied for being who they are.

I took part in a vow of silence today too It was my first time, and I was bit nervous as to everyone's reaction, but I knew it was for one of the greatest of causes! Today will forever be a memory that I will look back on, and say, "I can die, knowing I frought for something I believed in at least once during my life-time"
This photo captures the essence of today so perfectly
But today also was a bit sad, for the fact that friends of mine were acting so ignorant (!!) and effing stupid. But I didn't bring me down, not for this cause.

I was pleasantly surprised today. My 'good Christian mother' history teacher actually approved of my silence, and went on this whole tirade about how people need to be open minded. I love the world sometimes.

When I saw this, I started grinning like a crazy.
I did this today, and 140 kids at my school accompanied me.
Seeing so many at your school and on the net in support of something so vital really gives me hope about our future.

A lot of us at my school participated today, but unlike last year, they told us we weren't allowed to use tape. I don't see what the harm is.
If we were able to use it last year then what was the difference now?
It was rediculous. >.>
Beautiful representation on Day of Silence though. The pic itself and the message you gave of is stunning.

My Day of Silence was yesterday, and I put a piece of shiny silver duct tape over my mouth that I wrote "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" on in Sharpie. Then I tied a bandana over my mouth and went through my day as usual. And I wrote "Silence is golden, but duct tape is silver" on all my papers for the day.
