Yay! I particiipated today, even though it was less than 1/5th my school population that participated I was proud. I'm straight but I'll always stand up against homophobia and bullying. Go GSA!

VERY badass.
Most of my friends were doing it, but I couldn't because I had a performance in drama class on top of a full-run through for a play rehearsal today.
Props!

It's like, I've always wanted to do it, and the one year i actually remember, I can't because of rehearsal. XD
But it was really cool to see all the people in my school doing it. A lot of people didn't quite understand it, though. It saddens me a bit.

kimi-kasumi [2010-04-16 23:31:54 +0000 UTC]

i did that too today at my school. we all got sent to the dean only because we were a distraction from everyone else. i dont really understand how we were a distraction by being quiet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gutterface In reply to kimi-kasumi [2010-04-16 23:42:40 +0000 UTC]

you should tell the news about it, tell a local newspaper. seriously. thats bullshit.

kimi-kasumi In reply to gutterface [2010-04-16 23:44:44 +0000 UTC]

i know, i had to sit in the deans office all day because i refused to speak. these administrators are so retarded, they didnt know it was for a good cause. they thought we wanted to rebel against them -________-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gutterface In reply to kimi-kasumi [2010-04-16 23:45:47 +0000 UTC]

id tell someone about it. because schools shouldnt be allowed to act like that. the DOS is for a good cause and you had every right to not speak and support it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kimi-kasumi In reply to gutterface [2010-04-16 23:47:11 +0000 UTC]

exactly, i told alot of my friends about it afterwards, and they were like "you should complain to the school board"

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Jadeforce5 In reply to kimi-kasumi [2010-04-17 00:51:19 +0000 UTC]

If you do, you should complain that noone says anything for the "day of silence" for the anti-choice people. 20 or so kids from my school (out of 400, so a good chunk) did the anti-choice silent protest and they were allowed to not say anything all day. I wasn't at school today, but if I would have done it, I wouldn't have seen any support. Hell, the teachers in my school are openly against gay students. (more info on that one if you'd like) Complain and take them down. People need to see that it's not just the students who bully, the adults are an equal, if not larger, problem.

wolfvoice [2010-04-16 23:13:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm all for the day of silence! I, all my frinds, and the GSA club at our school all did it. I'm bi and I have been raised my entire life by my lezbian mother. It makes me so mad that there are some idiots that are going out of their way to say "that's so gay" every five seconds just to be hateful towards us.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gutterface In reply to wolfvoice [2010-04-16 23:42:21 +0000 UTC]

ngl, i say 'thats so gay' all the time. its not about being thin-skinned, its about the violence that occurs.

slander/slang/etc will always exist, but the hate and violence that surrounds the lgbt community needs to stop.

Now, I would have participated... but I was sick, so I stayed home.
And even if I did, it wouldn't have made much difference, seeing as how my school is a very open, artsy-fartsy prep school, and people seem to like you better if you're gay than straight (it's like the opposite of most schools...)

i found it hilarious that me and my friend were the only one who had an idea of the day of silence. i feel terrible that i talked, but at my school it's impossible. and then showing them the reason, i'd be digging my own grave...

but i love the concept of this picture. and i love those freckles, so adorable. <3

I work the overnight tonight and I'm looking forward to being silent for several hours.

I love the freckles!
Unfortunately, my school didn't carry out the DOS. Though, about 20 students did. We only got made fun of by the really religious kids, as per usual of the south, so we named it a success.

I didn't find out until the middle of the day when a friend showed it to me. I felt terrible not having joined in at the beginning, though, but trust me - I was with them in spirit

I also did it last year, which was quite the eye-opener. I remember always feeling so small and insignificant when people would ask me why I couldn't talk, and I'd show them the sign, and they'd say "oh." and walk away. >.<;;

I would've participated, but in my small, private, Christian school, I would've been kicked out. It's a shame....

Love this!!!!!

calthyechild In reply to Kyomg [2010-04-17 02:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is a shame. I'm a Christian myself and I think it's absolutely RIDICULOUS that another Christian would support the bullying that GLBT people experience, and even encourage it. You should never be kicked out for standing up against hate crimes. But I suppose you were there in spirit. Had I known about DOS I would have participated.

Me and my group of friends took part today~! We put ducktape on our shirts and pants with the words "GAY RIGHTS" and "SILENCE DAY" on them. ((Principal said the duck-tapped mouths where a health hazard or something... =__=')) It was shocking how many people where willing to be so rude as to laugh at me. I'm not gay, but today I felt a bit like ones the silence is for because of the way I was treated. It was very eye-opening & I can't wait to do it again. ^ ^
