Description
A group of settlers built an outpost relatively deep in the swamps at the fringes of the country, just a few merchants, warriors, alchemists and even a couple of sorcerers. The first few weeks were rather uneventful, the most notable thing to happen was finding a new species of mushroom (very tasty if prepared correctly). One day a group composed of an alchemist, a cartographer and a warrior set out on a routine expedition, and began finding strange things here and there; animals chopped in half and left impaled in trees. bones found with strange carvings, less and less animals the deeper they went. the water smelling more and more of blood, the poor fellows should have realized sooner that they were following a trail, but instead they found a cave, the stone walls covered in bloody sigils, the ground made of bones, and an eye watching from the shadows. the warrior was quick to notice that they had to get out of there as fast as possible, as he ran, the two others followed, and they didn't stop until there was no more blood in the water, and they could hear frogs and birds again. They returned to camp and warned their friends about the trail, the group noted it down and that was that. Until the sun set.
They didn't want to think about the possibility of the thing following them back to the settlement, it was too frightening, and it would mean that they had doomed all the others sleeping inside those walls. And that's exactly what happened. Everyone woke up with the sound of a door being torn down. It was an ogre, one eye shining yellow, and the other sown shut. It's mouth contorted in a horrible smile with bent teeth. The creature was as large as a bear, and carried a gigantic axe with a skull embebbed in it, one eyehole shining just like the ogre's eye. The band of explorers had no idea, but that was the first time in a while the creature had the joy of spreading fear, and it would relish in it for the next week.
ten days later a single alchemist returned from the swamps, missing an ear, some teeth, and two fingers. four days later he began speaking again, and told the horrified townsfolk about how the ogre used the strongest door they had built as a shield, mocking them, how he killed the horses so they couldn't escape, how the two sorcerers and the warriors tried to fight it, and even after opening a gaping hole in the monster's belly, it made no difference, how the next day the ogre was wearing their skin, and a horse's intestines as a belt. How the survivors were forced to stay in the settlement like cattle, being used as a source of resources to the beast's occult rituals, sometimes the ogre wanted a nail, sometimes an eye, a finger, a tooth, a heart. As a last ditch effort, they drenched the thing in oil and set fire to it so they had enough time to run away. It wasn't enough for the other three people, but it was for the one that was telling the story.
