Fanart for the online book A practical Guide to Evil . Playing around with one of the minor characters most people hardly even remembers. Fadila having scrying issues (also doubles up as art of the Observatory).
I tried giving Fadila some subtle visual ties to Masego with hair and colour theme (Black + Summer Sun). That said, she should probably be in a more practical robe, but I felt like drawing pretty high-class medieval dresses. At least I gave the outer surcoat detachable sleeves, so she’s taken those off before working.

Crazy fan speculations (with spoilers):
Fadila Mbafeno is one of the more interesting minor characters. Somehow, she managed to silently work herself from Heiress’s scrying-specialised minion with a death sentence, to Masego’s assistant, to practical manager of the Observatory and leader of Callow’s guild of Scrying magicians. All while Cat don’t really like her.
Currently Lady Mbafeno has got to be the highest-ranking magician left in Callow. Also, she’s in one of those positions, where she undoubtedly could do massive damage simply by leaving.
Most likely, she’s going to be a pretty obvious target for Malicia. So it’ll be interesting to see if she’s going to share a fate with Ratface, or suddenly have to take a stand against the undoubtedly most charming monster in Calernia trying to talk her over to her side. I actually doubt she’d ever betray Masego (we all know that’s her real boss). Not only would she know Cat would take it very badly, but seriously… She’s a mage specialising in scrying currently in charge of The. Observatory. Even if it’s somewhat crippled at the moment, this has got to be pretty much her dream position.
And that’s not even going into the option that Malicia placed brain wash speaking hooks in her, even as she were Heiress’s minion. That’d totally be something Malicia would do.
